St. Louis Cardinals 3B David Freese is out of the lineup Wednesday, April 24, and 1B Allen Craig is hitting second in the order.

Fantasy Tip: Craig is hitting just .245, but he does have 15 RBIs. The Cards use the two-hole often to help break a player out of a slump. It might not happen today, though, because they're facing Stephen Strasburg.

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Allen Craig (knee) suffered a laceration on his right knee sliding into a wall attempting to catch a foul ball in right field Wednesday, April 3.

Fantasy Tip: He fractured his kneecap on a similar play in Houston two years ago. Craig favored the knee for a bit, but remained in the game. He should be fine, but it may make the team re-think putting him in the outfield to give Matt Adams playing time at first base.

Updating a previous report, St. Louis Cardinals 1B Allen Craig signed a five-year, $31 million contract extension Friday, March 8, that could be worth as much as $43 million over six years. He'll earn $1.75 million this year, $2.75 million in 2014, $5.5 million in 2015, $9 million in 2016 and $11 million in 2017, and the team has a $13 million option for the 2018 season with a $1 million buyout.

The St. Louis Cardinals are close to deals that would renew all players' contracts under club control, but the team is taking a little extra time determining a salary for OF Allen Craig. The team uses the minimum salary of $490,000 and tacks on incentives based on production. An announcement is expected later this week.

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Matt Adams (knee) held himself out for the second straight day Monday, Feb. 25, with soreness and swelling in his left knee, but he said his knee felt much better and the swelling had gone down. Adams thinks he'll be cleared to return to action in the next few days. 1B Allen Craig (shoulder) was also unable to play Monday with right shoulder soreness.

St. Louis Cardinals OF Carlos Beltran (knee) is available to pinch hit against the San Francisco Giants in Game 4 of the NLCS Thursday, Oct. 18. Beltran is still listed as day-to-day. 1B Matt Carpenter is starting at first base and OF Allen Craig is shifting to right field.
