Vic Ketchman, of Jaguars.com, reports former Jacksonville Jaguars PK Mike Hollis is looking to make a comeback now with the start of the season on the horizon. "I've been kicking, maybe, once a week," Hollis said. 'I got a call from the Titans (Thursday), to see where I was. I'll remain in shape. I'll stay ready." Hollis, who had his career cut short by three back surgeries, was released by the New York Giants last March.

The two candidates are PK Mike Hollis and PK Matt Bryant. "It's going to be a good competition," Fassel said. "You wish you could put them under the fire more, and that's why I've done the field goals after practice (which determine whether or not the team is going to run sprints), so you get asense who would be best under pressure."

Bryant hit 4-of-6 field goals missing from 38 and 43 yards out while Hollis made 6-of-7 field goal attempts with a miss from 38 yards out. Head coach Jim Fassel knows it will be a tough decision to make by the end of camp. "I have a feeling when it comes down to it, it will be kind of a flip of a coin, anyway," Fassel said.

Bryant hit four-of-six field goals during workouts on Saturday, July 26, while Hollis hit six-of-seven. The two kickers will get an equal amount of chances in practice and head coach Jim Fassel plans to let the situation play out over the course of training camp. "I have a feeling when it comes down to it," he said, "it will be kind of a flip of a coin, anyway."

Updating previous reports, the New York Post reports New York Giants head coach Jim Fassel said he wants to keep only one place kicker on roster when the season begins, which means there should be a heated battle in training camp. Fassel said he will not keep a kicker on roster to handle just kickoffs. The competition should be among PKs Mike Hollis, Matt Bryant, and possibly even Owen Pochman.

Chandler kicked field goals with the Jaguars new special teams coach, John Bonamego, doing the holding. The Jaguars are attempting to replace free agent PK Mike Hollis, so they gave Chandler a long look. "John's here to work the kicker out," coach Tom Coughlin said. "We're definitely interested in [Chandler]. We're interested in all the athletes." Chandler said he was pleased with his effort yesterday.

In fact, they have not begun to look for a potential replacement. Agent Jack Mills, who represents New Orleans Saints PK John Carney, said he called the Steelers to gauge their interest in his client, but he was rebuffed. PK Jaret Holmes kicked the PAT after the team's second TD of the day. Coach Tom Coughlin didn't address the situation after the game. First I want to apologize to Tom for calling him out. I didn't mean to," Hollis said. "My intent was to explain how things have been here for seven years. You asked me my opinion about Tom. I was at fault for getting in detail like I said. That's my responsibility." Hollis may be playing his last game as a member of the team this week. He is a free agent at the end of the season. Coughlin said, "Jaret Holmes' one problem was the out-of-bounds ball, which, call it close, call it what you want, it was out of bounds, and that brings it back to the 40." Holmes has a shot at the starting job next season because Mike Hollis is expected to leave as a free agent.

The Associated Press reports the New York Giants defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars 27-5 earlier tonight. Three Giants QBs, Kerry Collins, Jason Garrett and Jesse Palmer threw TD passes. PK Jaret Holmes kicked two field goals. The defense did not allow a TD for the second straight game. Collins threw a 6-yard TD pass to FB Greg Comella, Garrett tossed a 4-yard TD pass to WR Joe Jurevicius and Palmer threw a 44-yard TD pass to rookie WR Jonathan Carter. Holmes' FGs were from 45 and 30 yards. PK Mike Hollis had a 41-yard FG for the Jaguars. RB Ron Dayne rushed for 43 yards on 12 carries and Jurevicius, filling in for the injured Ike Hilliard, had seven catches for 68 yards.

The Associated Press reports Jacksonville Jaguars PK Mike Hollis' six field goals led the team to a 18-16 win over the Carolina Panthers. The game winner was a 18-yarder with 18 seconds left in the game. Panthers PK John Kasay was short on a 60-yard FG attempt as the final gun sounded. Panthers rookie QB Chris Weinke had an up and down night. He completed 10 of 16 passes for 108 yards, including a 4-yard TD strike to Darryl Daniel. He also fumbled a snap and threw an interception.
