Nationals | Stephen Strasburg needs one more start

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 10:27:58 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg (oblique) is expected to make one more rehab start next week after allowing three runs on four hits and striking out five in four innings with Class AAA Syracuse Wednesday, July 29. He's expected to pitch five innings next week before returning to the rotation, according to manager Matt Williams.

Fantasy Tip: Strasburg ($7,300, 14.6% of cap) was pitching really well before going on the DL, and if he can stay healthy for the rest of the season, he could finish off the year in a nice fashion for his fantasy owners. Holding him out of daily lineups in his first turn back might be a good idea on FantasyScore, depending on who he matches up against.

Nationals | Stephen Strasburg makes rehab outing

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 08:49:04 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg (oblique) gave up three runs and four hits in his first rehab start for Class AAA Syracuse Wednesday, July 29. He struck out five and walked one while throwing 44 of his 64 pitches for strikes in the outing.

Fantasy Tip: Oblique strains are tricky, so Strasburg ($7,300, 14.6% of cap) will likely need at least one more rehab start before returning to the rotation. Strasburg allowed only three earned runs in his last 16 2/3 innings before going on the DL, so he can surely rebound to help his owners out for the rest of the season.

Nationals | Stephen Strasburg rehab update

Sun, 26 Jul 2015 13:41:32 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg (oblique) played catch Saturday, July 25, and is expected to make a minor league rehab start Wednesday, July 29.

Fantasy Tip: It is unknown where Strasburg ($7,300, 14.6% of cap) will make the rehab start or how many appearances he will need before he is activated from the disabled list, but he is expected to throw 60 to 70 pitches Wednesday. FantasyScore owners should wait until his second or third start after being activated before using him in their lineups.

Nationals | Stephen Strasburg throws Friday

Fri, 24 Jul 2015 14:34:50 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg (oblique) threw around 50 pitches in a three-inning simulated game Friday, July 24. He is expected to throw 60 to 70 pitches in a rehab game if he does not have any setbacks.

Fantasy Tip: Strasburg ($7,300, 14.6% of cap) is working his way back from the injury and likely will make a few rehab starts before he returns. Owners on FantasyScore may want to see him pitch in a game or two before using him in the lineup.

Nationals | Stephen Strasburg to throw Friday

Wed, 22 Jul 2015 09:24:11 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg (oblique) will throw live batting practice Friday, July 24, and would go on a rehab assignment afterwards.

Fantasy Tip: Strasburg ($7,300, 14.6% of cap) is still at least a couple of weeks away, but keep him stashed on your DL or on your FantasyScore watch list.

Nationals | Stephen Strasburg tosses bullpen

Tue, 21 Jul 2015 18:08:38 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg (oblique) threw off a mound in a bullpen session Tuesday, July 21, for the first time since landing on the 15-day disabled list. He threw 30 pitches in the session. He will need another bullpen session before he is ready for a minor-league rehab assignment.

Fantasy Tip: Strasburg ($7,300; or 14.6% of cap) should be avoided in FantasyScore until he can officially return and prove his health in at least one full start with decent results and no setbacks.

Nationals | Stephen Strasburg ready for more work

Mon, 20 Jul 2015 16:40:29 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg (oblique) is progressing well, and he may increase his workload in the coming days, according to manager Matt Williams Monday, July 20. "He had some towel drills that he ordinarily does, but that was off the mound yesterday, so that's a good step," Williams said. "[He threw on] flat ground today, and we'll look to a bullpen in a few days," said Williams.

Fantasy Tip: Strasburg ($7,300, 14.6% of cap) had won back-to-back starts before sustaining the injury July 4, against the San Francisco Giants. Strasburg must be stashed in season-long leagues, but FantasyScore owners will want to wait for a favorable matchup before investing upon his return to the majors.

Nationals | Stephen Strasburg resumes throwing

Fri, 17 Jul 2015 13:53:57 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg (oblique) played catch the last two days and will throw a bullpen session in the near future. Manager Matt Williams said Strasburg will need more than one rehab start before returning to the rotation.

Fantasy Tip: Oblique injuries can be tricky, especially for pitchers, so the Nats won't rush Strasburg ($7,300, 14.6% of cap) back into action. Stay patient if you own him. It's been a disappointing year, but Strasburg still managed to strike out 9.3 hitters per nine innings, and better luck and health in the second half could go a long way.

Nationals | Stephen Strasburg won't be rushed

Sun, 12 Jul 2015 16:44:03 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg (oblique) won't be activated from the disabled list until he is close to 100%, manager Matt Williams said Sunday, July 12.

Fantasy Tip: Not surprisingly, the Nationals are being cautious with Strasburg ($7,300, 14.6% of cap). He has battled inconsistent results and injuries all year, and when he does return, it is a good idea to give him a start or two before using him at FantasyScore.

Nationals | Stephen Strasburg placed on disabled list

Sun, 05 Jul 2015 12:40:40 -0700

Updating a previous report, the Washington Nationals have placed SP Stephen Strasburg (oblique) on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained left oblique. In a corresponding move, SP Taylor Jordan was recalled from Class AAA Syracuse.

Fantasy Tip: Strasburg ($7,300, 14.6% of cap) is landing on the disabled list for the second time this season. He is 5-5 with a 5.16 ERA but had been dominant since returning from his first DL stint, going 2-0 with a 1.15 ERA in three starts while limiting opponents to a .161 average. Jordan is not yet available in FantasyScore but is a possibility to replace Strasburg in the starting rotation, along with Tanner Roark ($4,700, 9.4% of cap).
