Nationals | Stephen Strasburgh avoids arbitration

Fri, 15 Jan 2016 12:02:54 -0800

Washington Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg re-signed a one-year, $10.4 million contract to avoid arbitration Friday, Jan. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Expect Starsburg to be a polarizing player at most draft tables this spring. He has flashed elite upside, but he has had some miserable stretches and has battled injuries throughout his career. Additionally, there are usually plenty of conflicting narratives surrounding his fantasy stock. Over his final 13 starts of 2015, Strasburg won eight games with a 1.79 ERA and 110 strikeouts through 82 innings. He checks out as a low-end No. 1 starter for your fantasy rotation and should be seen as a steal any time past Round 5.

Nationals | Stephen Strasburg not making excuses

Mon, 14 Dec 2015 09:04:45 -0800

Washington Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg (back) said a benign growth on his back last year didn't have anything to do with his struggles on the mound. He said he had a fibrolipoma removed from his back, and "it was above the muscle, so they didn't cut into muscle or anything." Strasburg also said there is "almost a zero% chance" it will return. He went 11-7 with a career-high 3.46 ERA last season and was on the disabled list twice with neck tightness and twice due to a strained muscle in his side.

Fantasy Tip: Despite the down season with multiple trips to the DL, Strasburg still managed to strike out a whopping 11.0 hitters per nine innings. He's certainly a health risk as a fantasy ace, but when he's healthy, he remains one of the best all-around hurlers in the game.

Nationals | Stephen Strasburg has minor procedure

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 14:24:26 -0800

Washington Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg (back) underwent a minor procedure to remove a "muscular" growth from his back that bothered him while pitching, according to his agent Scott Boras.

Fantasy Tip: After a rough start, Strasburg spun a 1.84 ERA with 110 strikeouts through 83 innings over 14 starts to finish off the 2015 season. However, multiple injuries crept up and limited him to just 23 starts last season. He has only hit the 200-innings mark once in his career and checks out as a No. 2 arm for fantasy rotations and not the ace most expected to develop into. View Strasburg as fringe top-20 arm on draft day next fall, but there is upside for a better return if he can stay healthy.

Nationals | Stephen Strasburg on the block?

Mon, 19 Oct 2015 00:37:54 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg could be trade bait in the offseason, according to sources in the know. Many teams have expressed interest in Strasburg in the last few years, and the Nationals and Texas Rangers did discuss a deal the past winter.

Fantasy Tip: Strasburg is still an elite pitcher to draft in mixed leagues, and it is doubtful he will go anywhere, but keep an eye on this. Obviously, his fantasy value could change if he ends up on a team with a weaker hitting lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Strasburg ($7,300, 14.6% of cap) has struck out at least 10 in four straight starts, and he has 50 total strikeouts during the stretch. He has also allowed one run or less in three straight starts, and he is a must-start at FantasyScore for the remainder of 2015.

Nationals | Stephen Strasburg fans 10

Sun, 20 Sep 2015 20:42:05 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg allowed one earned run on six hits and struck out 10 over seven innings in a win over the Miami Marlins Sunday, Sept. 20.

Fantasy Tip: Since returning from his second trip to the disabled list, Strasburg ($7,300, 14.6% of cap) has been pitching like an ace. He has a 1.98 ERA in his last 11 starts, and he has reached double-digit strikeouts in three straight. He is a must-start at FantasyScore right now.

Nationals | Stephen Strasburg mows them down again

Wed, 16 Sep 2015 08:58:20 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg allowed just one hit and tied a career high by striking out 14 Philadelphia Phillies in a win Tuesday, Sept. 15, in eight dominant innings. Strasburg has 27 strikeouts in his last two starts and was still throwing 96 mph in the eighth inning.

Fantasy Tip: Strasburg ($7,300, 14.6% of cap) has been lights out since he came off the DL, showing what he can accomplish when he's completely healthy. He'll be a popular pick on FantasyScore for the remainder of the season.

Nationals | Stephen Strasburg fans 13 in loss

Wed, 09 Sep 2015 19:27:59 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg (8-7) allowed three runs on five hits over 7 1/3 innings in a loss to the New York Mets Wednesday, Sept. 9, with one walk and 13 strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Strasburg ($7,300, 14.6% of cap) was making his first start since returning from a back injury and pitched well enough to win, with the 13 strikeouts being his most in any start this year. His next outing will come against the Philadelphia Phillies Tuesday, Sept. 15.

Nationals | Stephen Strasburg effective when healthy

Wed, 09 Sep 2015 11:07:07 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg allowed four runs and seven hits and left after four innings with an injury in his last start, but before that he was 3-1 with a 1.73 ERA and a 0.65 WHIP with 32 strikeouts and just three walks in 26 innings in his first four starts off the disabled list. Strasburg has been missing bats more frequently of late, with a swing-and-miss rate of 28% compared to just 18% earlier this year. His curveball has been much improved and has generated plenty of swings and misses.

Fantasy Tip: Strasburg ($7,300, 14.6% of cap) is certainly a risk/reward play on FantasyScore tonight coming off an injury-shortened outing against a Mets team that has been very hot in the last month and a half.
