Washington Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg will pitch Friday, July 18, against the Milwaukee Brewers. Strasburg will be followed by SPs Gio Gonzalez and Doug Fister. Manager Matt Williams is waiting on Jodran Zimmermann's (elbow) status before setting the rest of the rotation.
Fantasy Tip: The Nationals pitching staff have been excellent of late, but the Brewers are always a tough matchup. If Zimmermann misses a start, Blake Treinen would be a likely candidate to take his spot. It would be a road start against the Colorado Rockies, though, making Treinen an unattractive speculative add.

Washington Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg tossed 7 2/3 strong innings to beat the Colorado Rockies Tuesday, July 1, after the worst outing of his season last week. "I just tried to execute pitches better. I wasn't trying to reinvent the wheel," he said. "I think I wanted to go out there and just trust myself, and just have a little bit finer focus. I feel like I was able to keep the ball down a little bit." Strasburg was 0-2 with a 7.27 ERA in his previous three starts, but he struck out eight and walked one while allowing just one run against the Rockies.
Fantasy Tip: Clearly, the mechanical problems that Strasburg alluded to after his previous start have been fixed. There shouldn't be anything to worry about right now with Strasburg.

Washington Nationals manager Matt Williams and pitching coach Steve McCatty have both downplayed the fact that SP Stephen Strasburg may be dealing with mechanical issues after he allowed a career high in runs against the Milwaukee Brewers last week. Strasburg had been pitching well this year before slipping up in his last two outings. McCatty isn't panicking, but he noticed that Strasburg's back leg has been collapsing as he pitches, and it could be contributing to elevated fastballs. Strasburg had command issues early in the year and fixed them, and this situation appears similar.
Fantasy Tip: If the team's pitching coach isn't panicking, you shouldn't be either. Run Strasburg out there in your starting lineup for his next start.

Washington Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg has resolved to quit using smokeless tobacco. He said he was inspired to do so when he considered the impact it had on his family and how it was said to have contributed to the death of Tony Gwynn, his childhood role model and college coach at San Diego State.
Fantasy Tip: He also tried but failed to quit the habit in 2011. The physical ramifications are something that fantasy baseball players should keep in the back of their minds, but it's not something that instantly devalues Strasburg from the tier of fake-baseball aces.

The Washington Nationals are increasingly setting loose SP Stephen Strasburg. While Strasburg's fastball velocity is down and his results have lagged somewhat in the early going, thanks in large part to giving up lots of early runs, he is striking out batters at a 12.2 K/9 rate and advanced metrics love his work.

Washington Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg allowed four straight singles and two runs in the first inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers Wednesday, May 7, but he wound up allowing only seven hits (all singles) in 7 1/3 innings. Strasburg has allowed eight earned runs in his first eight innings this year for a 9.00 ERA. From the second inning on, he has an ERA of 2.29.
Fantasy Tip: This very well could be a focus issue for Strasburg early in his starts. It's a minor blip on the map for him right now and is something that can be easily corrected. Don't be too worried.
