The latest Brent Morel MLB and fantasy baseball news
Sat, 20 Apr 2013 11:10:05 -0700 Chicago White Sox minor league 3B Brent Morel (undisclosed), currently playing for Triple-A Charlotte, has been placed on the disabled list with an undisclosed injury. He has not played since Monday, April 15. In a corresponding move, minor league INF Josh Bell (undisclosed) was activated from the disabled list.
Thu, 11 Apr 2013 14:18:50 -0700 Scott Merkin speculates that the Chicago White Sox will use some combination of 3Bs Conor Gillaspie and Brent Morel at third base with 2B Gordon Beckham (wrist) out for six weeks. The team has roster flexibility, so they don't necessarily have to call up Morel from Triple-A Charlotte, though.
Fantasy Tip: Neither player is very attractive, except for those desperate for a third sacker in AL-only leagues. The picture will become more clear once the club makes a roster move tomorrow.
Tue, 19 Mar 2013 11:18:53 -0700 The Chicago White Sox optioned 3B Brent Morel and RP Deunte Heath to Triple-A Charlotte Tuesday, March 19, and reassigned 2B Carlos Sanchez and RPs Daniel Moskos and Zach Stewart to minor league camp.
Thu, 28 Feb 2013 15:39:57 -0800 Chicago White Sox 3B Brent Morel received a look at shortstop Thursday, Feb. 28. 3B Jeff Keppinger's (shoulder) sore shoulder has allowed 3B Conor Gillaspie to see more time at third base. Morel was primarily a shortstop in high school and as a freshman at Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo. "My goal still is to play third base every day," Morel said. "I think that kind of has to be your mindset. And if they want me to play other positions and that's going to get me to break camp and on that 25-man roster, then I'll do anything."
Tue, 26 Feb 2013 15:37:54 -0800 Chicago White Sox 3B Jeff Keppinger (shoulder) will sit out a few more days due to a sore right shoulder. 3Bs Brent Morel and Conor Gillaspie will play in his absence.
Fri, 22 Feb 2013 17:26:11 -0800 Chicago White Sox manager Robin Ventura said 3B Conor Gillaspie will compete for a spot at third base this spring with 3B Brent Morel. 3B Jeff Keppinger (shoulder) is the front-runner at the hot corner, but the team may prefer to move him across the infield. Keppinger will sit out the spring opener Saturday, Feb. 23, partly because of soreness in his right shoulder. His arm isn't up to normal strength because he didn't throw much in the offseason after he was recovering from a broken right fibula. Morel looks completely healthy this spring and has impressed Ventura, but Gillaspie could easily break camp with the team as a bench option.
Fri, 22 Feb 2013 08:40:28 -0800 The Chicago White Sox signed Ps Dylan Axelrod, Simon Castro, Deunte Heath, Nathan Jones, Charlie Leesman, Jhan Marinez, Nestor Molina, Brian Omogrosso, Jose Quintana, Addison Reed, Adriene Rienzo, Santos Rodriguez, Chris Sale, Hector Santiago, Leyson Septimo and Donnie Veal; Cs Tyler Flowers, Hector Gimenez and Josh Phegley; INFs Brent Morel and Angel Sanchez; and OFs Jordan Danks, Jared Mitchell, Blake Tekotte and Dayan Viciedo to one-year deals.
Thu, 14 Feb 2013 15:53:37 -0800 Chicago White Sox 3B Brent Morel (back) said he's healthy this spring after dealing with back problems last season. "A slight injury, it just makes guys look different the way they move around, and for him, he's swinging the bat free and easy," said manager Robin Ventura. "It's different when you get some spikes on and when you're running around and doing stuff. His (issue) is more kind of longevity of being able to stay and play nice and loose like that." With 3B Jeff Keppinger expected to start at third base, Morel will compete with OF Jordan Danks and 1B Lars Anderson for a spot on the bench, with INF Angel Sanchez a favorite for the utility infielder position. Ventura said Morel will see some action at a position other than third this spring.
Wed, 28 Nov 2012 14:02:23 -0800 Chicago White Sox 3B Brent Morel (back) feels completely healthy and plans to compete for the starting third base job in spring training next year. "I had a strong trunk and flexibility, but if I would go to move, it would loosen up quickly," Morel said. "So when I'd go for the ball or swing, my strength would go away. Everything else has to take over in my back." Morel's flexibility has returned in the last three weeks to one month, and he is pain-free in that area.
Wed, 01 Aug 2012 13:11:46 -0700 The Chicago White Sox activated 3B Brent Morel (back) from the disabled list Wednesday, Aug. 1, and optioned him to Triple-A Charlotte.
