Athletics | Eric Surkamp could start Friday

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 16:59:23 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Eric Surkamp could have his next scheduled start pushed up one day if the team decides to promote SP Dillon Overton from Class AAA Nashville to pitch Saturday, June 25, versus the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Surkamp is currently pencilled in as Saturday's starter but may wind up pitching Friday, June 24, instead.

Fantasy Tip: If Surkamp is not tapped to pitch Friday, the A's may recall SP Jesse Hahn from the minors to face the Halos, although he has not pitched well recently. Neither starter is a recommended fantasy option in any format.

Athletics | Eric Surkamp struggles yet again

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 22:51:46 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Eric Surkamp struggled once again Tuesday, June 14, against the Texas Rangers, as he dropped to 0-4 on the campaign. The left-hander lasted just 2 1/3 innings, surrendering seven runs on seven hits, including two home runs. He also walked two and struck out only one.

Fantasy Tip: It's really a miracle that Surkamp is even still getting the chance to start in the major leagues. The 28-year-old failed in his first stint as a starter with the San Francisco Giants a few years ago, and he's arguably been even worse this time around in Oakland. In fact, he's registered five innings in a start just once in seven tries this season. He has no business being on any fantasy rosters, let alone a major league roster at this point.

Athletics | Sean Manaea placed on DL

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 14:48:38 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Sean Manaea (forearm) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a left pronator strain Tuesday, June 14. SP Eric Surkamp was recalled from Class AAA Nashville in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: The young lefty has had mixed results in his rookie year, and was sporting a 2-4 record, 6.02 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and was striking out 7.3 per nine innings. It's unclear how much time he'll need to recover, but we wouldn't blame you if you dumped him in shallow leagues for other options. The A's don't have many other legitimate rotation options, so Manaea should have a spot to return to. Surkamp could take his rotation spot, but he's strictly an AL-only candidate if you're desperate.

Athletics | Eric Surkamp to pitch Tuesday

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 09:59:17 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Eric Surkamp will start Tuesday, June 14, against the Texas Rangers.

Fantasy Tip: The 28-year-old Surkamp is 0-3 with a 6.41 ERA through six starts this season and has struggled with his control, walking 15 batters while striking out just 14 in 26 2/3 innings. Avoid using him in all fantasy formats.

Athletics | Eric Surkamp demoted to Class AAA

Thu, 02 Jun 2016 10:53:52 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Eric Surkamp was optioned to Class AAA Nashville Thursday, June 2.

Fantasy Tip: Through his six starts this season, Surkamp has a 6.41 ERA and a 1.95 WHIP, which makes him a desperation own in cavernous mixed and AL-only setups.

Athletics | Eric Surkamp to start Tuesday

Mon, 30 May 2016 06:21:37 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Eric Surkamp is scheduled to be the starting pitcher against the Minnesota Twins Tuesday, May 31.

Fantasy Tip: Surkamp has struggled in his limited work for the Athletics this season and will enter the game with a 6.55 ERA. Owners in all leagues should be able to find better options to use in their lineups.

Athletics | Eric Surkamp sent down

Tue, 17 May 2016 21:30:54 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Eric Surkamp was sent to the minors Tuesday, May 17.

Fantasy Tip: Surkamp had a 6.55 ERA and just 4.9 strikeouts per nine innings in five starts for the A's. He can be dropped in any AL-only formats.

Athletics | Jesse Hahn may start Tuesday

Mon, 16 May 2016 18:34:10 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Jesse Hahn might start over SP Eric Surkamp Tuesday, May 17, against the Texas Rangers. If that's the case, somebody will have to go on the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: It's inevitable that Hahn will be back in the rotation at some point, so the A's might as well just make the move right now, especially since he has a far higher ceiling than a below-average hurler like Surkamp. The 26-year-old has a 3.00 ERA in two starts this season and should be monitored once he's back on the major league pitching staff.

Athletics | Eric Surkamp doesn't last long

Wed, 11 May 2016 21:55:48 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Eric Surkamp allowed four earned runs, four hits and two walks over three strikeouts over 2 2/3 innings in a loss Wednesday, May 11, against the Boston Red Sox.

Fantasy Tip: Surkamp threw just 33 of his 58 pitches for strikes, and his ERA ballooned to 6.55. He cannot be trusted in any fantasy format right now.

Athletics | Eric Surkamp starting Wednesday

Wed, 11 May 2016 09:37:51 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Eric Surkamp was recalled from the minors to start against the Boston Red Sox Wednesday, May 11.

Fantasy Tip: Surkamp allowed six earned runs in 4 2/3 innings against the Blue Jays his last time out and only has nine strikeouts in his four starts for the A's in 2016. Avoid him everywhere against the hot-hitting BoSox, especially at Fenway. Start your Red Sox tonight.
