Chicago Cubs RP Hector Rondon blew his fourth save of the season Thursday, July 7, in a 4-3 loss to the Atlanta Braves.
Fantasy Tip: It would be no surprise to see the Cubs pursue a closer at the trading deadline, and it is for that reason you should prepare as if Rondon will lose his job. You may want to avoid him altogether in fantasy leagues or at least pair him with other closers that can soften the blow.

Chicago Cubs RP Hector Rondon and RP Travis Wood are unavailable Wednesday, June 29.
Fantasy Tip: That would leave Pedro Strop or Trevor Cahill if a save chance presented itself. If you're desperate for saves and have daily waiver moves, it might behoove you to snag Strop.

Chicago Cubs SP Jon Lester yielded an eighth-inning solo homer to Cincinnati Reds OF Billy Hamilton among the three hits he allowed over 7 2/3 innings, but he did not factor into the decision on Tuesday, June 28, as RP Hector Rondon suffered his third blown save of the season.
Fantasy Tip: Naturally, the Cubs' bullpen after Rondon combined to give up three hits over six scoreless frames before Chicago erupted for five runs in the 15th inning to continue their recent domination of this series. Lester still hasn't taken a loss since May 21 and will have two shots to earn his 10th win before the All-Star break, with the first opportunity coming Sunday against the New York Mets.

Chicago Cubs RP Hector Rondon blew his second save in as many days Wednesday, June 15, against the Washington Nationals. He had been 11-for-11 in save situations prior to that.
Fantasy Tip: If Rondon was to lose his ninth-inning job, Pedro Strop and Justin Grimm would be the two most likely candidates to close games, with Strop having a slight edge. However, fantasy owners should expect the Cubs to stick with Rondon for the immediate future as their closer, unless they make a trade to upgrade their bullpen.

Chicago Cubs RP Hector Rondon (back) said his back is feeling better and he was available to pitch against the Los Angeles Dodgers Thursday, June 2.
Fantasy Tip: Over the past three years, Rondon has a 1.91 ERA, a 0.98 WHIP with 68 saves and 159 strikeouts over 150 2/3 innings. It is tough to paint him as anything other than a high-end closer. Expect him to start padding the saves column more frequently going forward, too. Chicago's league-best 134 run differential this season is due for some negative regression.

Chicago Cubs RP Hector Rondon (back) said he "felt fine" after throwing in the outfield before the game Thursday, June 2. However, it's unknown if he'll be available to pitch against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Fantasy Tip: Rondon's back injury looks to be minor, but don't be surprised if the Cubs hold him out for another day or two as a precaution. Pedro Strop is likely to serve as the interim closer in the meantime, and he's worth a speculative pickup in deeper leagues if you're hunting for saves.
