The Chicago Cubs activated RP Hector Rondon from the paternity list Tuesday, June 3, and designated RP Jose Veras for assignment in a corresponding move.

Chicago Cubs RP Neil Ramirez will serve as the team's closer with RP Hector Rondon out Friday, May 30.
Fantasy Tip: Ramirez could be the closer for however many days Rondon is out. Grab Ramirez off the waiver wire for the next few days if you're desperate for saves.

The Chicago Cubs placed RP Hector Rondon on the paternity list Friday, May 30, and activated RP Pedro Strop (groin) from the disabled list in a corresponding move.
Fantasy Tip: Rondon will miss a few days at minimum, so prepare for his absence. Considering Strop just returned, it remains to be seen if they'll trust him in a save situation right away with Rondon out. Your best bet for grabbing a cheap save over the next few days is with Neil Ramirez.

Chicago Cubs manager Rick Renteria said RP Hector Rondon is not available to pitch Monday, May 5, because he's pitched in the last four games.
Fantasy Tip: Remove Rondon from your lineups in daily leagues. If a save situation arises, it could be Pedro Strop, Neil Ramirez or even Wesley Wright who receives the save chance, depending on matchups Monday.

Chicago Cubs RP Hector Rondon was saddled with the loss after allowing a game-winning single in the ninth inning against the St. Louis Cardinals Sunday, May 4, and manager Rick Renteria made it clear that he wanted to stick with Rondon in a tie ballgame. "In the end, with the strength of Hector, regardless of who he's facing, lefty or righty, it's a good match for him," Renteria said. RP Wesley Wright was warming in the bullpen to face Cardinals 3B Matt Carpenter, but Renteria chose to stick with Rondon. Wright appears to have passed RP James Russell as the high-leverage lefty in the bullpen. Rondon said he felt strong despite pitching in his fourth game in the last five days.
Fantasy Tip: The outing was disappointing for Rondon owners, but the silver lining here is the fact that Renteria trusts Rondon as his closer, even in a tied game and facing a left-handed hitter. It cements the notion that he's the unquestioned man for the ninth inning right now in Chicago.

Chicago Cubs RP Hector Rondon recorded his second save in as many days Saturday, May 3.
Fantasy Tip: The team hasn't named a closer, but it's safe to say he's their guy for now. Pick him up in all formats.

Chicago Cubs RP Jose Veras (oblique) is scheduled to start his rehab assignment with Double-A Tennessee very soon, but it's unknown if he'll return as the team's closer when he's ready. RP Hector Rondon has emerged as a closer candidate with Veras out, and the other options are RPs Pedro Strop and Justin Grimm.
Fantasy Tip: Veras doesn't belong on a mixed league roster right now unless you're using him up in a DL spot. When he's ready to return, he'll probably have to prove that he deserves a shot in the ninth inning again and by then, one of the other relievers on roster may have staked a claim.
