Rays | Rays bring back Kevin Jepsen |
Thu, 14 Jul 2016 14:23:25 -0700
Free-agent RP Kevin Jepsen (Twins) has agreed on a deal with the Tampa Bay Rays Thursday, July 14.
Fantasy Tip: Ironically, it was the Rays who traded Jepsen to Minnesota last year, and he found some success there in 2015, but this season was a different story, however. Jepsen failed as the club's closer while filling in for Glen Perkins, ultimately owning a 6.16 ERA and 1.76 WHIP before being released earlier this week. This could turn out to be a fine move for Tampa Bay, but from a fantasy perspective, Jepsen would need a few injuries in front of him to become relevant again.

Twins | Kevin Jepsen released |
Mon, 11 Jul 2016 12:40:15 -0700
Minnesota Twins RP Kevin Jepsen was released Monday, July 11, and he is now a free agent.
Fantasy Tip: With a 6.16 ERA, a 1.76 WHIP and 6.5 K/9 through 30 2/3 innings this season, something isn't right with Jepsen. There is no fantasy value here until he finds a new home and proves he is capable of retiring batters in the big leagues.

Twins | Kevin Jepsen designated for assignment |
Sun, 03 Jul 2016 09:23:15 -0700
Minnesota Twins RP Kevin Jepsen was designated for assignment Sunday, July 3. In a corresponding move, OF Eddie Rosario was called up from the minors.
Fantasy Tip: Jepsen lost his closing gig back in June because of his struggles. He should be on the waiver wire in all leagues. For now, Brandon Kintzler and Fernando Abad are sharing the closing duties in Minnesota, with Kintzler being slightly more attractive in fantasy. Trevor May is lurking as a long-term option in the ninth. Rosario will be a reserve outfielder and likely won't play enough to warrant consideration outside of deep AL-only leagues.

Twins | Kevin Jepsen out as closer |
Wed, 08 Jun 2016 23:21:10 -0700
Minnesota Twins RP Kevin Jepsen will be removed from the closer role in the "short term," manager Paul Molitor said Wednesday, June 8. Jepsen has been scored upon in five of his past 11 appearances, and he's 2-5 with a 6.17 ERA in 25 appearances on the season. Molitor said RPs Brandon Kintzler and Fernando Abad could see ninth-inning duties.
Fantasy Tip: Abad is having a great year with a 0.87 ERA, a 1.02 WHIP and just over a strikeout per inning. The 30-year-old has no closing experience at this level, and he's a lefty, which could present matchup issues in the ninth. Kintzler has a 2.30 ERA and a 0.96 WHIP, but he doesn't possess the swing-and-miss stuff you'd like in a closer. However, he already has one save, and he might have the edge over the lefty. Whichever way the team goes, it's expected to be short-lived. Glen Perkins (shoulder) appears to be close to a rehab assignment, and he has a clear path back to his job if he doesn't suffer a setback. If he was dropped in your league, grab and stash him. Abad isn't a bad option for ratios, but Kintzler might be the guy for those desperate for saves. However, bad memories of Ryan Franklin ensue. For Jepsen owners, he appears to have run his course of fantasy viability for now. Unless Perkins suffers a setback, Jepsen's value plummets to AL-only depth.

Twins | Kevin Jepsen saddled with loss |
Sun, 05 Jun 2016 17:56:45 -0700
Minnesota Twins RP Kevin Jepsen allowed two runs on two hits while walking two and striking out one in a loss to the Tampa Bay Rays Sunday, June 5.
Fantasy Tip: Jepsen has had a rocky time as the closer, and with Glen Perkins inching closer to his return, Jepsen probably won't be handling ninth inning duties much longer.

Twins | Kevin Jepsen likely unavailable |
Mon, 18 Apr 2016 15:43:32 -0700
Minnesota Twins RP Kevin Jepsen is unlikely to pitch against the Milwaukee Brewers Monday, April 18, after pitching three consecutive games, according to manager Paul Molitor.
Fantasy Tip: Expect Trevor May or Ryan Pressly to make a spot appearance in the ninth inning Monday, if needed. May is particularly intriguing in some fantasy formats because of his eligibility as both a starting pitcher and reliever, especially since he has 14 strikeouts through just eight innings. Jepsen should be ready to return to the mound Tuesday, April 19.

Twins | Kevin Jepsen nails down another |
Sat, 16 Apr 2016 16:05:00 -0700
Minnesota Twins RP Kevin Jepsen recorded his second save in as many days Saturday, April 16.
Fantasy Tip: If there were any questions as to whether Jepsen or Trevor May would be the guy, you can put them to rest. May is still worth owning because of his ratios and K's, but Jepsen should be owned in most leagues.
