Pirates | Josh Harrison sitting vs. Mariners

Tue, 26 Jul 2016 11:41:00 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 2B Josh Harrison is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, July 26. 2B Adam Frazier is starting at second base and batting seventh against Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez Tuesday.

Fantasy Tip: Harrison is in a dreadful slump with an active 22-for-128 (.172 batting average) run at the dish with a .477 OPS, whereas Frazier has a .359/.405/.590 lash line over his first 42 plate appearances. This has the makings of a timeshare, and unless Harrison pulls out of his funk, he's in risk of losing his job. Frazier is a player on the rise in mixed leagues.

Pirates | Jordy Mercer leading off vs. Phillies

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 12:13:08 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SS Jordy Mercer is leading off against Philadelphia Phillies SP Zach Eflin Friday, July 22. Pirates 2B Josh Harrison is batting eighth Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Mercer receives a nice fantasy boost hitting atop the lineup, but he remains nothing more than a low-end option in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues. He could be worth a longer look than usual in daily contests Friday, though. Harrison is reeling along a 31-for-153 run at the plate since the calendar flipped to June. You can consider replacing him outside of cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues.

Pirates | Adam Frazier leading off

Thu, 21 Jul 2016 13:09:24 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 2B Adam Frazier is leading off against Milwaukee Brewers SP Matt Garza Thursday, July 21. Pirates 2B Josh Harrison is not in the starting lineup Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Frazier checks out as an excellent value flier in daily contests Thursday. Garza has surrendered a .366 wOBA to left-handed batters over the past two seasons. Sub out Harrison where you can in seasonal leagues. His ability on the base paths (14 stolen bases) is key to his fantasy success.

Pirates | Josh Harrison, Jung Ho Kang resting

Sun, 17 Jul 2016 08:54:16 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 2B Josh Harrison and 3B Jung Ho Kang are out of the starting lineup against Washington Nationals SP Max Scherzer Sunday, July 17. INF Adam Frazier will bat second and play second base, while INF David Freese will bat fifth and play first base. In addition, OF Matt Joyce will bat sixth and play right field, with C Erik Kratz batting eighth and starting behind the plate.

Fantasy Tip: Freese and Joyce have been enjoying productive seasons, although Joyce is just 2-for-20 in his career off Scherzer and is not a recommended fantasy option this afternoon. Frazier and Kratz should be viewed strictly as a means of emergency cap relief in DFS.

Pirates | PIT reshuffles lineup Saturday

Sat, 16 Jul 2016 14:11:08 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 1B/3B David Freese is not in the lineup against Washington Nationals RH Tanner Roark on Saturday, July 16. 1B John Jaso is playing first and batting leadoff, OF Starling Marte moves from the cleanup spot in the team's previous game to second and occupy left field. 3B Jung Ho Kang is hitting fourth and will replace Freese at third, INF/OF Sean Rodriguez is batting fifth and will be stationed in right field while 2B Josh Harrison will slide down from first to sixth in the order.

Fantasy Tip: Of the Pirates' top six hitters from Friday's 5-1 loss, only Andrew McCutchen will retain his spot in the order (third). Marte and McCutchen each have a home run in limited at-bats against Roark and are the best plays from Pittsburgh's lineup in daily or traditional formats today.

Pirates | Josh Harrison back in action

Fri, 15 Jul 2016 13:59:48 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 2B Josh Harrison (foot) is back in the lineup Friday, July 15, against Washington Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg. Harrison will lead off.

Fantasy Tip: Harrison (.274-3-41) has 14 stolen bases coming out of the All-Star break, but foot problems have hindered him. Hopefully the break did some good. Leave him off your lineup for a game to see what happens.

Pirates | Gregory Polanco, Josh Harrison out

Sun, 10 Jul 2016 09:07:59 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Gregory Polanco (hamstring) and 2B Josh Harrison (foot) are not in the starting lineup against Chicago Cubs SP John Lackey Sunday, July 10. 2B Sean Rodriguez will start at second base and is batting fifth, while OF Adam Frazier will start in right field and is batting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Rodriguez is hitting .250 with three home runs and five RBI over the last seven days. He could be a sleeper option for owners in daily fantasy leagues. Frazier is hitting .350 in limited playing time this season, but owners should be able to find better players to use.
