A source with knowledge of the situation indicated Tuesday, Jan. 22, that the Chicago Cubs would be interested in signing Boston Red Sox RP Christopher Carpenter if he is put on waivers. The Red Sox designated Carpenter for assignment, and have 10 days to trade him before they must put him on waivers.

The Boston Red Sox placed OF Carl Crawford (wrist), SP Daisuke Matsuzaka (elbow), SP Andrew Miller (hamstring) and RP Rich Hill (elbow) on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, April 4. All of their stints are retroactive to March 26. RP Andrew Bailey (thumb), OF Ryan Kalish (shoulder) and SP Christopher Carpenter (elbow) were placed on the 60-day DL.

The Boston Red Sox are unlikely to receive a different player from the Chicago Cubs as compensation for former general manager Theo Epstein, even though P Christopher Carpenter (elbow) is out indefinitely after undergoing surgery on his right elbow to remove a bone spur. The Red Sox had complete access to Carpenter's medical records and he passed two physicals - one from the Cubs and one from the Red Sox - before the deal was finalized.
