Orioles | 3B trade unlikely

Sun, 24 Aug 2014 02:58:42 -0700

The Baltimore Orioles are likely to stick with 1B Chris Davis and IF Ryan Flaherty at third base in place of 3B Manny Machado (knee). The feeling among the front office staff is the trade market is barren at this time of year.

Orioles | Manny Machado placed on DL

Wed, 13 Aug 2014 12:05:56 -0700

The Baltimore Orioles have placed 3B Manny Machado (knee) on the 15-day disabled list because of a right knee sprain. The team also selected the contract of 2B Cord Phelps from Triple-A Norfolk.

Fantasy Tip: There is no exact timetable for Machado, but there is a chance he could return at some point during September, so owners should keep him on the bench or the disabled list. Chris Davis and Ryan Flaherty could both see time at third base while Machado is out. Flaherty could be an option for AL-only owners, depending on his playing time.

Orioles | Manny Machado scratched

Tue, 22 Jul 2014 20:05:33 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 3B Manny Machado (back) was scratched from the lineup Tuesday, July 22, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim due to a tight lower back. 2B Ryan Flaherty made the start at third base in Machado's absence.

Fantasy Tip: The injury comes the night after his career-high 19-game on-base streak came to an end. Tough week for Machado's fantasy owners. He is likely considered day to day.

Orioles | Manny Machado to be demoted?

Tue, 10 Jun 2014 09:53:47 -0700

Baltimore Orioles general manager Dan Duquette said demoting struggling 3B Manny Machado to the minors is an option. Machado is hitting just .229 with a .619 OPS in 154 plate appearances after missing the first month of the season recovering from left knee surgery. He's swinging at more pitches out of the strike zone this year and hitting more groundballs and fewer line drives. 2B Ryan Flaherty could fill in at the hot corner if Machado is demoted, with 2B Jonathan Schoop at second base.

Fantasy Tip: The decision on whether to demote Machado won't be taken lightly, and might not happen soon if they decide to go that route. We warned you that Machado might struggle coming off that knee injury. If you haven't already, start making alternate plans for your third base spot.

Orioles | Chris Davis to be placed on DL

Sat, 26 Apr 2014 19:39:44 -0700

Baltimore Orioles manager Buck Showalter said 1B Chris Davis (oblique) will be placed on the 15-day disabled list because of his oblique injury. Showalter indicated Davis will need around two weeks to recover from the injury.

Fantasy Tip: It does not sound like Davis will miss much more than the 15 days he will need to stay on the disabled list, so owners can keep him on the bench or place him on their disabled lists. Ryan Flaherty, Steve Lombardozzi and Nick Markakis could be options to play first base while Davis is out and could be short-term options in AL-only leagues.

Orioles | Chris Davis injury update

Fri, 25 Apr 2014 18:42:40 -0700

Updating a previous report, Baltimore Orioles 1B Chris Davis (oblique) left the game early Friday, April 25, because of a left oblique strain.

Fantasy Tip: There is a chance that Davis will have to go on the disabled list because of the injury. Steve Clevenger, Ryan Flaherty or Steve Lombardozzi could handle first base if the team uses someone off their current roster. They could also consider recalling Steve Pearce or Brett Wallace from Triple-A to fill the role. If Davis goes on the DL, none of his replacements likely would be more than AL-only options.

Orioles | Jonathan Schoop likely man out when 3B returns

Thu, 17 Apr 2014 18:47:55 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 2B Jonathan Schoop likely will be sent down to the minor leagues when 3B Manny Machado (knee) is ready to return to the team. 2B Ryan Flaherty and 2B Steve Lombardozzi probably would share starts at second base.

Baltimore Orioles OFs Delmon Young and Adam Jones and 1B Matt Wieters homered in a 14-5 rout of the New York Yankees Tuesday, April 8. Young and Wieters each had three RBIs, as well. Jones' home run was his first of the season. 2B Ryan Flaherty also recorded three hits after starting the season in a 1-for-21 slump.

Orioles | J.J. Hardy available

Tue, 08 Apr 2014 11:02:08 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SS J.J. Hardy (back) has missed four of the team's last five games with back spasms, but he was "a lot better" Tuesday, April 8, and is available off the bench. The Orioles are optimistic that Hardy can avoid going on the disabled list and return in a day or two. INFs Ryan Flaherty, Jonathan Schoop and Steve Lombardozzi have been starting on the infield with Hardy and 3B Manny Machado (knee) out.

Fantasy Tip: Continue to keep Hardy on your bench until he returns to the lineup, which could be later this week. Flaherty, Schoop and Lombardozzi should all be owned in AL-only leagues until both Hardy and Machado are back in the lineup together on a daily basis.
