Orioles | J.J. Hardy available

Tue, 08 Apr 2014 11:02:08 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SS J.J. Hardy (back) has missed four of the team's last five games with back spasms, but he was "a lot better" Tuesday, April 8, and is available off the bench. The Orioles are optimistic that Hardy can avoid going on the disabled list and return in a day or two. INFs Ryan Flaherty, Jonathan Schoop and Steve Lombardozzi have been starting on the infield with Hardy and 3B Manny Machado (knee) out.

Fantasy Tip: Continue to keep Hardy on your bench until he returns to the lineup, which could be later this week. Flaherty, Schoop and Lombardozzi should all be owned in AL-only leagues until both Hardy and Machado are back in the lineup together on a daily basis.

Orioles | Jonathan Schoop to make team

Fri, 28 Mar 2014 09:55:25 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 2B Jonathan Schoop is expected to make the opening day roster, and he will alternate at second base with 2B Steve Lombardozzi and at third base with 3B Ryan Flaherty.

Fantasy Tip: Schoop is an intriguing prospect with raw power for a second baseman. He earned his spot with a strong spring showing, and he'll be that much more valuable in AL-only leagues if he can gain multi-position eligibility.

Orioles | Jonathan Schoop standing out

Tue, 11 Mar 2014 08:15:26 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 2B Jonathan Schoop is 9-for-17 with four extra-base hits and five RBIs in Grapefruit League play. He's still in competition with Ryan Flaherty and Jemile Weeks to start at second base. All three have minor league options.

Fantasy Tip: Schoop has the best long-term potential of these three but will have to keep up his hot hitting to usurp the other two. Either way, Schoop should emerge with semi-regular playing time at some point this season, which means he's worth tucking away in AL-onlys.

Orioles | Want Ryan Flaherty to go the other way

Sat, 01 Feb 2014 19:19:22 -0800

Baltimore Orioles hitting coach Jim Presley indicated Saturday, Feb. 1, that he wants 2B Ryan Flaherty to work on hitting to the opposite field. "Is (Ryan) going to be a .360 (on-base percentage) guy? I don't think so. I think he has more juice to where he can utilize that, but we need him to have a two-strike approach and hit the ball the other way and we are going to stress that in spring training," Presley said.
