Orioles | Ryan Flaherty sent down

Sun, 05 Jul 2015 09:34:14 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 2B Ryan Flaherty was optioned to the minors Saturday, July 4.

Fantasy Tip: With Jonathan Schoop coming off the DL this weekend, Flaherty ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) became expendable. He could be back with Baltimore eventually as a utility infielder later this season. If you haven't already done so, look to add Schoop if he's available in your deep mixed or AL-only leagues.

Orioles | J.J. Hardy out of lineup again

Tue, 02 Jun 2015 14:55:59 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SS J.J. Hardy (side) is out of the lineup again Tuesday, June 2. 2B Ryan Flaherty is starting at shortstop and hitting eighth in the batting order against Houston Astros SP Collin McHugh.

Fantasy Tip: Hardy could land on the disabled list, depending on what his MRI exam results show. Flaherty ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) and Everth Cabrera ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) would likely split time at the 6 if that were to happen. Flaherty doesn't have much offensive upside and doesn't steal bases, either, making him a weak FantasyScore option.

Baltimore Orioles 2B Ryan Flaherty (groin) is batting eighth in the lineup Wednesday, May 27, against the Houston Astros.

Orioles | Alejandro De Aza cut

Wed, 27 May 2015 11:19:19 -0700

Baltimore Orioles OF Alejandro De Aza was designated for assignment Wednesday, May 27, to make room on the roster for 2B Ryan Flaherty (groin), who was activated from the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: With De Aza out of the picture, it opens up more playing time for Travis Snider ($2,900, 5.8% of cap), David Lough ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) and Steve Pearce ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) in left field. It could become a platoon situation between Snider and Pearce, however. Stay tuned. All three outfielders are strictly matchup plays at FantasyScore for the time being.

Orioles | Steve Pearce at 2B Tuesday

Tue, 12 May 2015 11:42:57 -0700

Baltimore Orioles OF Steve Pearce is starting at second base and hitting sixth in the batting order against Toronto Blue Jays SP Mark Buehrle Tuesday, May 12. 2B Ryan Flaherty (groin) tweaked his groin in the game Monday, May 11.

Fantasy Tip: Pearce ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) is off to a rough start to the season and has lost playing time quickly as a result. He only has three hits in May. However, Buehrle has allowed four home runs and a slash line of .363/.391/.569 to right-handed hitters this season. Pearce could become a great value play this evening.

Orioles | Ryan Flaherty's status up in air

Mon, 11 May 2015 19:56:38 -0700

Updating a previous report, Baltimore Orioles 2B Ryan Flaherty (groin) is expected to have an MRI Tuesday, May 12. Manager Buck Showalter said Flaherty must be able to play Tuesday to avoid a stint on the 15-day disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Flaherty spent time on the DL already with a groin issue, and he appears to be headed back barring an unexpected good result. Avoid him in FantasyScore until his situation is more clear. Steve Pearce ($3,000; or 6.0% of cap) is likely start at second base if Flaherty is forced to the shelf.

Orioles | Ryan Flaherty leaves game

Mon, 11 May 2015 18:00:40 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 2B Ryan Flaherty (groin) left the game Monday,May 11, against the Toronto Blue Jays due to an apparent injury. He had been on the 15-day disabled list earlier in the season with a strained right groin muscle, and he felt discomfort during a game over the weekend against the New York Yankees. He limped back to second base after meeting with a trainer before slowly walking to the dugout.

Fantasy Tip: With Flaherty out, Steve Pearce ($3,000; 6.0% of cap) came in from outfield to play second, while David Lough ($1,800; 3.6% of cap) entered the game. Both could see fairly regular at-bats if Flaherty misses time.

Orioles | Steve Pearce out of lineup

Sun, 10 May 2015 08:03:19 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 1B Steve Pearce is out of the lineup Sunday, May 10, against the New York Yankees. 2B Ryan Flaherty will start and bat ninth in the order.

Fantasy Tip: Flaherty ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) has shown some early pop with two home runs through 39 plate appearances. Stuck in the ninth spot of the order, Flaherty is unlikely to offer much to FantasyScore owners.

Orioles | Steve Pearce sitting out

Fri, 08 May 2015 13:02:29 -0700

Baltimore Orioles OF Steve Pearce is not in the starting lineup Friday, May 8. 2B Ryan Flaherty recently came off the 15-day disabled list and will be the starting second baseman for the Orioles.

Fantasy Tip: Pearce ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) has not been off to a hot start at the plate, so he is receiving a day off. Flaherty ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) has not played since April 23, and owners on FantasyScore may want to see him play in a game or two before using him.
