Washington Nationals RP Ryan Mattheus' (chest) MRI exam Monday, Feb. 24, showed costochondritis, which is inflammation of the cartilage that attaches the ribs to the sternum. "The time frame is however fast it heals," Mattheus said. "Once the pain gets out of there, they'll let me ramp up activity accordingly. There's no (prognosis). It's just whenever the pain subsides." He has no problem throwing but experiences pain when taking deep breaths.

Washington Nationals RP Ryan Mattheus (chest) will undergo an MRI exam on his chest. He started feeling pain after a bullpen last week, and it bothers him when he takes a deep breath, coughs or sneezes. Mattheus thinks he'll be out two weeks at the most.
