Washington Nationals manager Davey Johnson said OF Destin Hood is the team's most improved minor league player. "He has really honed his baseball instincts. I probably put him in the improved category along with Michael A. Taylor," Johnson said. "If you asked me to grade the improvement of guys when I first saw them. Hood is the most improved followed by Michael Taylor."

Washington Nationals OFs Michael A. Taylor and Destin Hood are thought of as the future of the team's outfield, along with OF Bryce Harper. Minor league evaluator Pat Corrales said Taylor could be the team's center fielder next year, but he'll likely begin at Single-A Potomac this year. Hood is likely to start off at Double-A Harrisburg.

The Washington Post's Barry Svrluga reports the Washington Nationals optioned P Mike O'Connor to Triple-A Syracuse and optioned P Ross Detwiler to Double-A Harrisburg. P Justin Jones, P Bobby Brownlie, P Preston Larrison, P J.D. Martin, C Javier X. Herrera, IF Chris Marrero, IF Matt Whitney and OF Destin Hood were reassigned to minor league camp.

Bill Ladson, of MLB.com, reports the Washington Nationals agreed to terms with OF Destin Hood Thursday, July 17. Hood will be assigned to the team's Gulf Coast League affiliate. He will make a total of $1.1 million over the next five years.

Chico Harlan, of The Washington Post, reports the Washington Nationals have still not signed second-round draft choice OF Destin Hood. According to a source, Hood is seeking money comparable to a first-round choice.

Bill Ladson, of MLB.com, reports Washington Nationals OF Destin Hood took batting practice with the team Tuesday, June 24. Hood was the team's second-round draft pick in the 2008 MLB Amateur Draft. The team is still in the process of trying to sign Hood to a professional contract.
