Boston Red Sox SP Alfredo Aceves has gone 2-0 with a 1.38 ERA in two starts for Triple-A Pawtucket, but manager John Farrell said the team would like to see Aceves make a few more appearances before considering calling him up.

Boston Red Sox RP Alfredo Aceves is a logical candidate to be recalled if RP Joel Hanrahan (forearm) has to go back on the disabled list. Aceves threw six scoreless innings with Triple-A Pawtucket last week.

Fantasy Tip: Aceves, who served as a closer last season for Boston, would likely be used as a long reliever to help the short-staffed bullpen out. John Farrell has already named Junichi Tazawa as his next closer with both Andrew Bailey (biceps) and Hanrahan injured.

Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell said the demotion of SP Alfredo Aceves was strictly "performance based," and Aceves will continue to start with Triple-A Pawtucket.

Updating a previous report, the Boston Red Sox will try to trade SP Alfredo Aceves, who was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket Wednesday, April 24. The pitcher has 72 hours to report to the minor-league affiliate.

Boston Red Sox SP John Lackey (biceps) could avoid a trip to the disabled list, according to manager John Farrell. Lackey suffered a right biceps strain in his outing Sunday, April 7, and an MRI exam showed no structural damage. "He's improved," said Farrell. "He's still in a 48-to-72-hour recovery period. There's no roster move to announce of any kind right now. The most encouraging thing is that following the MRI, it showed some inflammation in the biceps. That's been it. He's set for re-exam today. After we get that information, we'll map out our plan of attack going forward." The team won't need a fifth starter until Sunday, April 14, and P Alfredo Aceves would be the likely choice if Lackey can't pitch.

Fantasy Tip: The good news is that Lackey's latest injury has nothing to do with his surgically-repaired right elbow. Aceves is worth a speculative pickup in AL universes if you're looking for more pitching.

Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell said Friday, March 1, that RP Alfredo Aceves has been acting "like a model citizen" in camp lately after an early issue which he lobbed pitches towards home plate in live batting practice.
