Sat, 15 Jun 2013 11:46:01 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Felix Doubront is scheduled to start one of the games of the doubleheader Tuesday, June 18, with SP Alfredo Aceves or SP Rubby De La Rosa expected to start the other game. Red Sox | Jon Lester to start Sunday, Clay Buchholz Tuesday

Thu, 13 Jun 2013 15:32:06 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Jon Lester will start on Sunday, June 16, against the Baltimore Orioles. SP Clay Buchholz (neck) has been pushed back to start one end of the team's doubleheader on Tuesday, June 18, versus the Tampa Bay Rays. P's Alfredo Aceves and Rubby De La Rosa (elbow) are the two candidates to start the other end of the twin bill.

Fantasy Tip: This just confirms what seemed likely a day ago. Lester is working on some mechanical issues and isn't the safest play; the BoSox were hoping for a couple of extra days to get him some extra work on the side. Aceves has pitched well in three starts and would seem to be the safer choice. Buchholz can't be considered a lock to make his start Tuesday, yet.

Red Sox | Alfredo Aceves recalled, Jose De La Torre optioned

Wed, 12 Jun 2013 11:19:41 -0700

Boston Red Sox P Alfredo Aceves has been recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket so that he can start the club's game on Wednesday, June 12. Boston has optioned RP Jose De La Torre in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Aceves is tough to consider for a spot start, despite his mild success in recent spots. The Tampa Bay Rays have hit Boston around in this series.

Red Sox | Rubby De La Rosa, Allen Webster candidates for spot start

Tue, 11 Jun 2013 15:31:42 -0700

Boston Red Sox SPs Rubby De La Rosa and Allen Webster, along with P Alfredo Aceves, are candidates to start one end of a doubleheader scheduled for Tuesday, June 18, against the Tampa Bay Rays.

De La Rosa's pitch counts have moved into the 80s recently, but he has completed five innings only once in his 11 starts for Triple-A Pawtucket. He's allowed only four earned runs in his last eight starts (good for a 1.14 ERA in that span), however.

Fantasy Tip: It sounds like De La Rosa isn't the ideal candidate, especially since Webster has already filled in twice this season -- once quite well, once disastrously -- and Aceves would also be on turn. Clay Buchholz's recent neck issue, along with the recent taxing of Boston's bullpen, has forced them to examine their options. It's feasible to think that P Franklin Morales, who was originally scheduled to start on Wednesday before he was needed for a couple of frames in last night's 14-inning game, is an option for the doubleheader, too.

Red Sox | Alfredo Aceves to start Wednesday

Tue, 11 Jun 2013 14:09:05 -0700

Boston Red Sox P Alfredo Aceves will start Wednesday, June 12, at the Tampa Bay Rays.

Fantasy Tip: It may be worthy of AL-only spot-start value, but it probably isn't worth testing in most mixed formats.

Red Sox | Franklin Morales activated

Tue, 28 May 2013 13:34:41 -0700

The Boston Red Sox activated SP Franklin Morales (pectoral) from the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, May 28, and optioned P Alfredo Aceves to the minors in a corresponding move.

Red Sox | Alfredo Aceves to make spot start

Sun, 26 May 2013 18:09:43 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Alfredo Aceves will make the spot start in place of the injured SP Clay Buchholz (collarbone) Monday, May 27, against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Fantasy Tip: Aceves is worth a look in AL-only fantasy leagues if you're desperate for pitching, as the Phillies haven't been as potent of an offensive attack as we have seen in the past.
