|Cardinals | St. Louis checking reliever market|
Wed, 20 Jul 2016 07:07:24 -0700
The St. Louis Cardinals are looking to acquire a relief pitcher and have scouted relievers from the Oakland Athletics, Atlanta Braves, Milwaukee Brewers and Arizona Diamondbacks. Diamondbacks RP Daniel Hudson is of specific interest.
Fantasy Tip: The Cardinals have recently installed Seung-hwan Oh into the closer role, and the 33-year-old righty has been rock solid all season with a 1.75 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 61 strikeouts through 46 1/3 innings. Barring an implosion, he's going to keep the gig. Hudson or another acquisition would pitch in a set-up role, and have minimal fantasy value.

|Diamondbacks | Two starters off limits|
Sun, 17 Jul 2016 05:00:53 -0700
Fantasy Tip: It appears the timing on this has to do more with when they are free agents. Since Hudson and Clippard are up first (this offseason and after 2017, respectively) it makes sense. Corbin and Ray have identical 4-8 records and don't carry much value at the moment, but future seasons could be different. Right now, these pitchers are more likely to be stashed in deeper NL and mixed leagues.

|Diamondbacks | Daniel Hudson activated|
Sat, 09 Jul 2016 10:24:25 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Hudson is 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA and one save in 36 appearances this season, with 12 walks and 25 strikeouts in 32 innings but has posted a 13.50 ERA in 11 games over the past four weeks. The 29-year-old right-hander is expected to return to his eighth-inning setup role but don't be surprised if he finds himself in the mix for save opportunities following the recent trade of RP Brad Ziegler to the Boston Red Sox. Hudson should be rostered in NL-only fantasy leagues and by owners looking for a speculative source of saves because he could wind up becoming the Diamondbacks' closer in the long run.

|Diamondbacks | Tyler Clippard could close for now|
Sat, 09 Jul 2016 10:11:51 -0700
Arizona Diamondbacks RP Tyler Clippard is expected to get the first crack at closing games for the team following the trade of RP Brad Ziegler to the Boston Red Sox. RP Daniel Hudson was also under consideration for the role but he is currently on the bereavement list.
Fantasy Tip: Clippard is 2-3 with a 3.06 ERA through 35 games this season, with 10 walks and 39 strikeouts over 32 1/3 innings. The 31-year-old right-hander has one save in 2016 and 54 for his career, including 32 saves for the Washington Nationals in 2012. Hudson, who also has one save this year, will continue in a setup role when he rejoins the club. Both pitchers should be owned in NL-only fantasy leagues and rostered in mixed leagues by owners who are desperate for saves.

|Diamondbacks | Daniel Hudson put on bereavement list|
Tue, 05 Jul 2016 14:24:40 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Hudson, who sports a 4.50 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 7.0 K/9 is really only useful to fantasy owners as a handcuff to closer Brad Ziegler in deeper leagues. Godley is making a spot start tonight against the Padres in place of Zack Greinke, but he's a very risky matchup play in DFS and NL-only leagues.

|Diamondbacks | Brad Ziegler could become trade bait|
Wed, 29 Jun 2016 06:29:47 -0700
Arizona Diamondbacks RP Brad Ziegler could become trade bait as the team is trending towards becoming sellers at the trade deadline. RP Daniel Hudson is in the same boat as both are free agents after the season.
Fantasy Tip: Ziegler would likely be acquired to serve as a setup man, which would ruin the only category that he's contributing in with his 16 saves. It might be wise to pick up Tyler Clippard and stash him if possible in case Ziegler is dealt.

|Diamondbacks | Arizona relievers of interest |
Wed, 15 Jun 2016 09:48:14 -0700
Arizona Diamondbacks RPs Brad Ziegler and Daniel Hudson are generating trade interest from other teams, according to general manager Dave Stewart. The Diamondbacks will consider contract extensions with both relievers before the trade deadline.
Fantasy Tip: Despite not having typical closer stuff (5.2 K/9), Ziegler has been effective in the ninth-inning role with 13 saves and a 2.93 ERA after breaking out for 30 closures in 2015. He relies on deception and ground balls for his success. It looks as though the D-backs don't have intentions of making him available this summer.

|Diamondbacks | Daniel Hudson's role up in air|
Wed, 09 Dec 2015 14:35:42 -0800
Fantasy Tip: Hudson managed to save four games for the D-backs last year, but if he's not closing, he won't have much fantasy value other than serving as a handcuff for Arizona's ninth-inning stopper. Hudson fanned 9.4 hitters per nine innings but would sacrifice some of that swing-and-miss stuff if he returns to a starting role. Stay tuned in NL-only leagues.

|Diamondbacks | Daniel Hudson notches third save|
Tue, 01 Sep 2015 15:23:33 -0700
Arizona Diamondbacks RP Daniel Hudson allowed a run on two hits while striking out two batters to earn his third save of the season during Arizona's 6-4 win over the Colorado Rockies in Game 1 of their doubleheader Tuesday, Sept. 1.
Fantasy Tip: Hudson continues to receive the odd save opportunity, so owners chasing the category can lean on him in the hope he'll grab a few more save chances down the stretch. Just note, he owns an underwhelming 3.99 ERA for the year. Brad Ziegler owners shouldn't fret him losing his closing role just yet, but he has allowed seven earned runs through two appearances over the past two days. Don't be shocked to see Ziegler pitch in Game 2 of the doubleheader, if needed, and for Hudson to see a few more save opportunities down the stretch, especially if Ziegler continues to struggle.

|Diamondbacks | Daniel Hudson to start Sunday|
Sun, 10 May 2015 12:29:17 -0700
Arizona Diamondbacks P Daniel Hudson will make his first major league start in nearly two years Sunday, May 10, against the San Diego Padres. Manager Chip Hale said he will only throw 50-60 pitches before exiting the game and giving way to several relievers, including J.C. Ramirez.
Fantasy Tip: Hudson has made 12 relief appearances since his last start in June 2012, which ended prematurely when he tore his ulnar collateral ligament. He is not available in FantasyScore and will head back to the bullpen after today's outing, with Archie Bradley (head) expected to return later this week.
