If the Cleveland Indians do not bring in a candidate to close from outside of the organization, RPs Cody Allen, Matt Capps, Vinnie Pestano and Bryan Shaw are the likely leading candidates to replace RP Chris Perez in the closer's role.

Cleveland Indians RP Bryan Shaw is expected to serve as either the top setup man or closer in 2014.
Fantasy Tip: Shaw is likely to be on the fantasy radar of many heading into 2014, but to what degree depends upon his role. In a setup role, he would be useful in deeper mixed rotisserie formats for help in the ERA and WHIP categories. Obviously he would have much more value if he can secure the closer's role.

Cleveland Indians general manager Chris Antonetti said RPs Cody Allen and Bryan Shaw are the top candidates to replace RP Chris Perez as the team's closer heading into next season. The team is hoping RP Vinnie Pestano can have a bounce-back season in 2014.
Fantasy Tip: As was mentioned previously, Joe Smith might also be a name to watch for, although the Tribe may prefer to leave him in a setup role. Allen and Shaw will be cheap late-round saves material.

The Cleveland Indians released RP Chris Perez Thursday, Oct. 31, and re-signed 1B Jason Giambi to an undisclosed deal.
Fantasy Tip: Perez was demoted late in the regular season in favor of Joe Smith. Smith will likely enter spring training as the favorite to take the role over full time, but Cody Allen and Bryan Shaw could make some noise if Smith struggles out of the gates.

The Cleveland Indians could use SP Justin Masterson or Joe Smith in the ninth inning this weekend in save situations. RP Cody Allen and Bryan Shaw are other options depending on the game situation. RP Chris Perez has been demoted from the closer's role.
Fantasy Tip: If we had to bet, it'd be Smith closing out a game or two this weekend. However, it could also be Allen with the Indians trying to lock up one of the two Wild Card spots.

Ps Nick Hagadone and Bryan Shaw and 2B Ryan Raburn will be added to the 25-man roster. SP Carlos Carrasco will open on the major league roster, serve his six-game suspension and then be sent to Columbus.

The Cleveland Indians traded OF Shin-Soo Choo to the Cincinnati Reds Tuesday, Dec. 11, and they acquired SP Trevor Bauer from the Arizona Diamondbacks in the three-team trade. The Reds also added INF Jason Donald from the Indians, while sending minor-league SS Didi Gregorius to the Diamondbacks. The Indians sent RP Tony Sipp and 1B Lars Anderson to Arizona, and added RP Matt Albers and P Bryan Shaw.
Fantasy Tip: Choo moving to the Reds is a tremendous boon for his fantasy value. He has five-tool ability, and can be a great add early on draft day in NL-only formats, and mixed leaguers will certainly want to target him in the early to middle rounds. He'll be a consistent source of runs scored in a more potent lineup.
Bauer is the key piece for the Indians, as they get a potential cornerstone pitcher. He will be a great addition to their rotation, but keep in mind he might struggle for victories with a lineup that isn't looking too potent. In mixed leagues, he'll certainly be worth an add in the middle to late rounds for his potential, and he remains a must-have in long-term keeper formats.
