Cleveland Indians RPs Cody Allen and Bryan Shaw will be monitored so they're not used too much. "Because they'll say yes [if I summon them to pitch], I need to check myself sometimes," manager Terry Francona said.
Fantasy Tip: Allen is the clear-cut closer according to his recent use, so maybe Francona will ease up when the situation does not call for a save. Shaw continues to be useful as a handcuff and RP innings filler in deep leagues.

Cleveland Indians RP Bryan Shaw worked scoreless seventh and eighth innings and entered the game with the team up 5-2 Tuesday, May 20. RP Cody Allen worked a scoreless ninth in a non-save situation.

Cleveland Indians RP Bryan Shaw recorded his second save Sunday, May 11.
Fantasy Tip: Cody Allen is the favorite to take over because of his dominant stuff, but Shaw is in the lead right now.

The Cleveland Indians have removed RP John Axford from the closer role. There won't be a set ninth-inning arm, but Cody Allen, Scott Atchison, Marc Rzepczynski and Bryan Shaw will see chances, per Terry Francona.
Fantasy Tip: Allen and Shaw, in that order, are your best pickups, and going further down the chart right now in mixed leagues with Atchison and Rzepczynski for speculation won't pay off. Ax will work in less stressful innings but could get the job back down the line. Your commitment depends on your roster structure and need to wait this out.

Cleveland Indians RP John Axford worked with pitching coach Mickey Callaway, and Axford noticed a flaw in his posture that was affecting his breaking pitch. The two have also been working on tweaking Axford's arm slot to reduce the run on his fastball, and Axford felt he had improvement in both areas in his outing Wednesday, May 7, when he had a scoreless ninth inning. He had allowed four runs and three walks in 1 1/3 innings in his last two appearances (one blown save and a loss).
Fantasy Tip: Axford's shaky outings of late has many speculating that Cody Allen or even Bryan Shaw may start to see some save chances in his stead. Allen should be your first target if you're speculating for a change at the back end of the 'pen, but it might be a little premature, especially if Axford's fixes take hold.
