Pittsburgh Pirates 3B Josh Harrison, who has been preparing at shortstop in the instructional league, is unlikely to be a candidate to start at shortstop next season. The most likely candidates from within the organization are SS Chase d'Arnaud and 3B Pedro Ciriaco. The team is having Harrison work at shortstop to increase his versatility. "How do we see him fitting with our club next year? Probably in a utility role," general manager Neal Huntington said. "But we're not going to hold him back if he shows that he can continue to develop and continue to get better."

Pittsburgh Pirates SS Chase d'Arnaud could take over as the team's everyday shortstop next year after the team declined to pick up SS Ronny Cedeno's 2012 option. The team will likely look outside the organization for other options at shortstop, too.

The Pittsburgh Pirates recalled OF Alex Presley and IF Chase d'Arnaud from Triple-A Indianapolis and optioned SS Pedro Ciriaco and SP Aaron Thompson to Triple-A.

Pittsburgh Pirates SS Chase d'Arnaud (finger) went hitless in three at-bats with a walk and a run scored Sunday, Aug. 14, with Triple-A Indianapolis. d'Arnaud is 1-for-12 in three minor league rehab games.

Pittsburgh Pirates SS Chase d'Arnaud (finger) started his minor league rehab stint with Class A Bradenton Sunday, Aug. 7. He was hitless in three at-bats with a steal Sunday, and he had one hit in three at-bats Monday, Aug. 8.

The Pittsburgh Pirates placed SS Chase d'Arnaud (pinkie) on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, July 27, with a fractured pinkie on his right hand. In a corresponding move, the team recalled RP Chris Leroux from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Pittsburgh Pirates SS Chase d'Arnaud (finger) was only available to pinch hit and run Tuesday, July 26, against the Atlanta Braves due to a chipped fracture in his right pinkie finger. The injury is not expected to land him on the 15-day disabled list, however.
