The Pittsburgh Pirates have optioned INF Jordy Mercer to Triple-A Indianapolis. They have also optioned Ps Shairon Martis, Jo-Jo Reyes and Doug Slaten to minor league camp.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have agreed to terms with 25 players for the 2012 season, meaning that all of the players on their 40-man roster are now under contract. OFs Gorkys Hernandez, Starling Marte, Andrew McCutchen and Alex Presley, INFs Chase d'Arnaud, Matt Hague, Josh Harrison, Jordy Mercer, Yamaico Navarro, Gustavo Nunez and Neil Walker, C Mike McKenry and Ps Jared Hughes, Chris Leroux, Brad Lincoln, Jeff Locke, Daniel McCutchen, James McDonald, Kyle McPherson, Bryan Morris, Daniel Moskos, Rudy Owens, Tony Watson, Duke Welker and Justin Wilson agreed to terms Saturday, March 3.

The Pittsburgh Pirates added 3B Matt Hague, OF Starling Marte, SS Jordy Mercer, SP Rudy Owens, P Duke Welker and P Justin Wilson to the 40-man roster. C Eric Fryer and OF Xavier Paul were designated for assignment.

Entering play Sunday, July 17, Pittsburgh Pirates IF Steve Pearce (calf) was batting .357 with a double and two home runs through three rehab games with Triple-A Indianapolis. Manager Clint Hurdle said he could rejoin the team later this week. Pearce started at third base Saturday, July 16, but moved over to shortstop when SS Jordy Mercer (head) had to leave the game after being hit in the head by a pitched ball.

Pittsburgh Pirates SS Jordy Mercer was named Eastern League player of the week Monday, June 20, after going 8-for-21 with three doubles, two homers and nine RBIs last week with Double-A Altoona.
