Red Sox | Christian Vazquez catching Sunday

Sun, 22 May 2016 08:22:57 -0700

Boston Red Sox C Christian Vazquez is back behind the plate against Cleveland Indians SP Danny Salazar Sunday, May 22, batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Vazquez is just hitting .211 (4-for-19) out of the No. 9 spot in the batting order and is 2-for-12 at the plate over the past week, so DFS players should avoid using him this afternoon.

Red Sox | Blake Swihart not in catching rotation

Fri, 20 May 2016 16:26:34 -0700

Boston Red Sox C Blake Swihart is taking over in left field for the Red Sox despite just 11 games of experience at Class AAA Pawtucket. He will not be involved in catching duties. Cs Christian Vazquez and Ryan Hanigan will continue to split the catching work. Swihart still sees himself as a catcher in the long run, though. Swihart has made progress on defense, but he needs to work on his pitch-calling before he's ready to get behind the plate again. Boston has been encouraged with how Swihart has transitioned to left field. He'll form a platoon there with OF Chris Young, with Young playing against left-handers.

Fantasy Tip: Swihart's bat has always been better than his glove, and he hit .274 with five home runs and 31 RBI in 84 games as a rookie in 2015. If he continues to hit and fields his position in the outfield, he could stick long term in left in the strong side of a platoon. Gaining outfield eligibility makes him more attractive as a grab off the waiver wire in deep mixed and AL-only formats.

Red Sox | Christian Vazquez drives in three

Wed, 18 May 2016 22:38:33 -0700

Boston Red Sox C Christian Vazquez went 2-for-4 with three RBI in the second game of a doubleheader against the Kansas City Royals Wednesday, May 18.

Fantasy Tip: Vazquez has picked up at least one hit in four of his last five games and has three RBI during that span. Vazquez should receive a few starts each week and is a decent option in two-catcher leagues as well as some daily fantasy leagues.

Red Sox | Hanley Ramirez, Brock Holt sitting

Wed, 18 May 2016 08:30:08 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B Hanley Ramirez and OF Brock Holt are out of the lineup Wednesday, May 18, in the first game of a doubleheader. 3B Josh Rutledge is hitting sixth, and OF Chris Young is hitting eighth. C Ryan Hanigan is hitting ninth with C Christian Vazquez also resting.

Fantasy Tip: Young is only worth using against lefties, which Ian Kennedy is not. Rutledge is 4-for- 9 (.444) the last week and might be worth a basement flyer. Hanigan isn't worth starting in DFS.

Red Sox | Christian Vazquez out

Sun, 15 May 2016 09:33:19 -0700

Boston Red Sox C Christian Vazquez is not in the starting lineup against Houston Astros SP Chris Devenski Sunday, May 15. C Ryan Hanigan will start at catcher and is batting ninth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Hanigan has only one hit in his last 13 at-bats and is batting only .149 this season. Owners should be able to find better options to use in their lineups.

Red Sox | Christian Vazquez out Sunday

Sun, 08 May 2016 15:45:48 -0700

Boston Red Sox C Christian Vazquez is not in the lineup Sunday, May 8, against the New York Yankees. C Ryan Hanigan will hit ninth against Yankees SP Luis Severino.

Fantasy Tip: In reality, Hanigan and Vazquez look like they are platooning, with neither catcher having an edge over each other. Hanigan is hitting .176 and has little fantasy value in daily or keeper leagues at this point.

Red Sox | Christian Vazquez catching Saturday

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 12:17:47 -0700

Boston Red Sox C Christian Vazquez is in the starting lineup against New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda Saturday, April 30, batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Vazquez is 3-for-10 with a pair of doubles over the past week and should be viewed as an inexpensive flier option for daily fantasy contests.

Red Sox | Christian Vazquez returning to action

Sat, 23 Apr 2016 10:19:51 -0700

Boston Red Sox C Christian Vazquez is batting ninth and starting behind the plate against Houston Astros SP Mike Fiers Saturday, April 23.

Fantasy Tip: Vazquez is just 3-for-17 through his first five games of the year and is not a recommended option for daily fantasy contests. He's only worth rostering in AL-only and two-catcher seasonal leagues.

Red Sox | Three BOS regulars resting Sunday

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 08:16:58 -0700

Boston Red Sox 2B Dustin Pedroia, OF Brock Holt and C Christian Vazquez are out of the starting lineup versus Toronto Blue Jays SP Aaron Sanchez Sunday, April 17. OF Chris Young will play left field and bat sixth, C Ryan Hanigan will bat eighth and 2B Marco Hernandez will bat ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Young and Hanigan have combined to go 1-for-14 at the dish this year and Hernandez will be making his MLB debut this afternoon. None of these players are recommended options for daily fantasy games today.

Red Sox | Christian Vazquez making first start

Fri, 15 Apr 2016 12:31:40 -0700

Boston Red Sox C Christian Vazquez is making his first start of the season and batting eighth Friday, April 15, against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Fantasy Tip: With Blake Swihart getting sent down, Vazquez will have an opportunity at the starting job, though it should be noted he hasn't even appeared in a major league game since 2014. That season, he hit .240/.308/.309 with only one home run in 175 at-bats, so his ceiling isn't exactly high. Even still, a regular spot within Boston's dangerous batting order can lead to value in some formats. Keep track of how he does out of the gate.
