Sat, 30 Apr 2016 12:17:47 -0700

Boston Red Sox C Christian Vazquez is in the starting lineup against New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda Saturday, April 30, batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Vazquez is 3-for-10 with a pair of doubles over the past week and should be viewed as an inexpensive flier option for daily fantasy contests.

Red Sox | Christian Vazquez returning to action

Sat, 23 Apr 2016 10:19:51 -0700

Boston Red Sox C Christian Vazquez is batting ninth and starting behind the plate against Houston Astros SP Mike Fiers Saturday, April 23.

Fantasy Tip: Vazquez is just 3-for-17 through his first five games of the year and is not a recommended option for daily fantasy contests. He's only worth rostering in AL-only and two-catcher seasonal leagues.

Red Sox | Three BOS regulars resting Sunday

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 08:16:58 -0700

Boston Red Sox 2B Dustin Pedroia, OF Brock Holt and C Christian Vazquez are out of the starting lineup versus Toronto Blue Jays SP Aaron Sanchez Sunday, April 17. OF Chris Young will play left field and bat sixth, C Ryan Hanigan will bat eighth and 2B Marco Hernandez will bat ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Young and Hanigan have combined to go 1-for-14 at the dish this year and Hernandez will be making his MLB debut this afternoon. None of these players are recommended options for daily fantasy games today.

Red Sox | Christian Vazquez making first start

Fri, 15 Apr 2016 12:31:40 -0700

Boston Red Sox C Christian Vazquez is making his first start of the season and batting eighth Friday, April 15, against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Fantasy Tip: With Blake Swihart getting sent down, Vazquez will have an opportunity at the starting job, though it should be noted he hasn't even appeared in a major league game since 2014. That season, he hit .240/.308/.309 with only one home run in 175 at-bats, so his ceiling isn't exactly high. Even still, a regular spot within Boston's dangerous batting order can lead to value in some formats. Keep track of how he does out of the gate.

Red Sox | Christian Vazquez coming up

Thu, 14 Apr 2016 10:56:33 -0700

Boston Red Sox C Christian Vazquez (elbow) is on his way to the club from a minor league rehab assignment Thursday, April 14, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Vazquez is viewed as a defensive ace, and he could cut into starter Blake Swihart's time or even prompt his demotion. Vazquez missed all of last season due to Tommy John surgery and didn't do anything special at the plate in 2014. He would be a low-end streamer in good matchups.

Red Sox | Christian Vazquez unlikely to make team

Sat, 26 Mar 2016 10:56:24 -0700

Boston Red Sox C Christian Vazquez appears to be a long shot to make the club's opening day roster, according to manager John Farrell.

Fantasy Tip: Blake Swihart will serve as Boston's primary catcher, with veteran Ryan Hanigan backing him up. Vazquez appears ticketed for Class AAA Pawtucket and the defensive-minded backstop is not worth monitoring outside of AL-only fantasy leagues.

Red Sox | Christian Vazquez to play Tuesday

Sun, 06 Mar 2016 08:26:30 -0800

Boston Red Sox C Christian Vazquez (elbow) is expected to get his first start behind the plate versus the Baltimore Orioles Tuesday, March 8.

Fantasy Tip: Vazquez is a defensive-minded catcher who possesses little offensive upside. There's a possibility that he could be ready for Opening Day but his lack of power means he should be avoided outside of AL-only fantasy leagues.

Red Sox | Christian Vasquez making more progress

Wed, 02 Mar 2016 16:43:12 -0800

Boston Red Sox C Christian Vazquez (elbow) continues to make more progress in his recovery from Tommy John surgery and is throwing to the bases "more aggressive than last time out," according to manager John Farrell.

Fantasy Tip: Vazquez is a defensive stud, so he'll see some time behind the plate eventually when Boston deems him fully healthy. However, his skills with the bat are a big mystery. He lacks power, too, which would likely make him a part-timer behind the plate, at best. Blake Swihart has much more fantasy appeal.

Red Sox | Christian Vazquez rehab update

Thu, 25 Feb 2016 18:22:41 -0800

Boston Red Sox C Christian Vazquez (elbow) threw at a distance of 120 feet Thursday, Feb. 25, and is expected to throw to all the bases Friday, Feb. 26. Manager John Farrell said he would likely play in a simulated game before seeing game action.

Fantasy Tip: The possibility remains that Vazquez could be ready for Opening Day, although he did experience some discomfort in his right elbow last week due to some scar tissue. The simulated game appearance could come as early as the end of next week, if all goes well. Due to his lack of power and offensive upside, Vazquez isn't worth targeting outside of AL-only fantasy leagues.

Red Sox | Christian Vazquez's arm still strong

Fri, 12 Feb 2016 16:25:19 -0800

Boston Red Sox C Christian Vazquez (elbow) made throws to the bases on the field Friday, Feb. 12, and he continues to make good progress from Tommy John surgery. Vazquez has an excellent arm from behind the dish, and his injury doesn't appear to have changed that. "He's probably at about 90%," manager John Farrell said. "But it's there. You can see that. He'll only get better."

Vazquez even played some winter ball to stay active. Vazquez feels like he can be ready for Opening Day, and that's his goal. He also worked on improving his conditioning and changed his diet, which led to him dropping 25 pounds.

Fantasy Tip: Boston will take it slow with Vazquez, and they've already said they play to open the year with Blake Swihart and Ryan Hanigan as their catchers. Vazquez is excellent defensively, but can he hit? He lacks power and should only be looked at in the deepest of AL-only leagues.
