Rockies | Tyler Chatwood allows one hit in win

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 04:17:59 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Tyler Chatwood allowed one hit in five innings Sunday, July 24, as the Rockies beat the Atlanta Braves, 7-2.

Fantasy Tip: It was a mixed bag for Chatwood, whose stat lines are about ready to make fantasy owners' blood pressures skyrocket. Chatwood allowed eight walks and recorded six strikeouts, yet he allowed no runs and his record is now 9-6 overall. Chatwood is a safe start in fantasy leagues, but be aware that his line might induce cringes from time to time.

Rockies | Tyler Chatwood's home struggles continue

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 22:58:43 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Tyler Chatwood yielded seven runs on eight hits in three innings against the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday, July 19. He walked two and struck out one en route to his sixth loss at Coors Field this season.

Fantasy Tip: Tampa Bay entered this series dead last in the majors in runs for July, and yet they managed to top their best output of the month (five runs) in just three innings against Chatwood. He's simply a different pitcher on the road, and tonight proved he can't be relied on even in a plus match-up. Until further notice your best approach is to start Chatwood on the road and keep him nestled securely on the virtual pine at Coors Field.

Rays | Logan Morrison out Tuesday

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 14:24:40 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 1B Logan Morrison will not start Tuesday, July 19, against the Colorado Rockies. 1B Steve Pearce is in the lineup and will hit fifth against Rockies SP Tyler Chatwood.

Fantasy Tip: Morrison (.232-10-31) is the backup to Pearce, who was hitting .322-9-25 before a hamstring issue sidelined him on June 20. Look for Pearce to get the bulk of the starts moving forward, which could cost Morrison some fantasy value. Still, with 10 home runs to his credit, don't be surprised if the team finds ways to get Morrison some at-bats.

Rays | Brandon Guyer out of Tuesday lineup

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 13:59:51 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Brandon Guyer is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, July 19, against Colorado Rockies SP Tyler Chatwood. OF Corey Dickerson is in left field again and will hit fourth.

Fantasy Tip: With just three hits in his last seven games, the Rays are likely going with the hotter hand at the plate. Dickerson's batting average (.223) is low, but his 13 homers and 35 RBI make him a strong DFS and regular-league candidate.

Rockies | Tyler Chatwood solid in return

Tue, 05 Jul 2016 23:53:21 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Tyler Chatwood (back) surrendered two runs -- one earned -- on three hits in five innings against the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday, July 5. He walked four and struck out four.

Fantasy Tip: Making his first start since June 18, Chatwood did a good job of keeping the Rockies within striking distance against Madison Bumgarner. Chatwood's MO has been to pitch poorly at home and dominate on the road. While this wasn't dominance, the narrative still held largely true. Chatwood is scheduled to start once more before the break, at home against Philly. Proceed with caution.

Rockies | Tyler Chatwood activated

Tue, 05 Jul 2016 15:41:55 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Tyler Chatwood (back) was activated from the disabled list Tuesday, July 5. SP Eddie Butler was optioned to Class AAA Albuquerque in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Chatwood has been solid for the Rockies this year with a 3.15 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, but his 5.6 strikeouts per nine innings leaves something to be desired for fantasy owners. He's a matchup play in deep mixed and NL-only leagues when he's on the road and not at pitcher-friendly Coors Field. He's starting against the Giants tonight.

Rockies | Tyler Chatwood nearing a return

Sun, 03 Jul 2016 05:19:14 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Tyler Chatwood (back) threw a bullpen session Saturday, July 2, and manager Walt Weiss said Chatwood could return from the disabled list "very soon."

Fantasy Tip: Chatwood doesn't move the needle enough in the strikeout department (5.6 K/9 this season) to be anything more than a low-end hurler in mixed leagues, but he did win eight of 14 starts with a 3.15 ERA before the injury. Still, calling hitter-friendly Coors Field home doesn't help, and it's best to view Chatwood as a better deep mixed and NL-only option.

Rockies | Tyler Chatwood to DL

Sun, 19 Jun 2016 23:45:45 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Tyler Chatwood (back) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday, June 19, with a mid-back strain. SP Eddie Butler is likely to take Chatwood's spot in the rotation.

Fantasy Tip: Chatwood was one of the best pitchers in baseball on the road with a 5-0 record and a 1.25 ERA. He's worth stashing if you have space despite his 5.57 K/9. Butler has been nothing short of abysmal in his young career, and he's not worth adding except for depth in NL-only leagues.
