San Diego Padres SP Tyson Ross (shoulder) underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on his left (non-throwing) shoulder Thursday, Oct. 3, and he's expected to be ready for spring training next year.
Fantasy Tip: There shouldn't be anything to worry about here since the procedure was to his non-throwing appendage. Consider Ross a strong option to anchor your starting pitching staff next season. He pitches in a great environment and has strikeout upside.

San Diego Padres SP Jason Marquis (elbow) has a complete tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow, and he'll need to have Tommy John surgery.
Fantasy Tip: Marquis will miss the rest of this season and most of next year, too. This opens the door for Tyson Ross to enter the rotation for the rest of the season.

The San Diego Padres recalled SP Tyson Ross from Triple-A Tucson Tuesday, July 23, and optioned RP Miles Mikolas to Tucson in a corresponding move.
Fantasy Tip: Ross will enter the rotation and start against the Milwaukee Brewers today. He could make for decent deep mixed league pitching depth, and he's definitely worth an addition to NL-only rosters.

San Diego Padres SPs Tyson Ross and Sean O'Sullivan are joining the team's starting rotation. Ross will start Tuesday, July 23, and O'Sullivan will take the mound against the Milwaukee Brewers Wednesday, July 24.
Fantasy Tip: Ross is the better choice if you're looking for more pitching in a deep mixed or NL-only league.

San Diego Padres SP Jason Marquis (elbow) is dealing with serious ligament damage to his right ulnar collateral ligament, according to manager Bud Black.
Fantasy Tip: This doesn't sound good, and it's possible that we won't see Marquis back on the mound for the rest of the season. If Marquis is down for the count, expect Tyson Ross to enter the rotation.

The San Diego Padres are open to trading SP Edinson Volquez at the trade deadline, even though they plan to limit the workloads of SPs Andrew Cashner and Robbie Erlin this year. Ps Tyson Ross and Burch Smith are options to enter the rotation in the second half of the year. SP Joe Wieland (elbow) is expected to return after the All-Star break.
Fantasy Tip: Keep Ross, Smith and Wieland on your radar in NL-only leagues if the Padres trade one of their current starters.

San Diego Padres SP Tyson Ross (shoulder), who missed 14 games with a subluxation of his left shoulder, will continue pitching out of the bullpen until he's healthy enough to swing a bat again. Once he can, he'll jump back into the starting rotation. "We still see him as a starting pitcher," said manager Bud Black. "But that will be left shoulder-related and whether he's physically able to do that. Right now, his strength is improving. In due time, he has to get in a cage."
Fantasy Tip: Ross has struggled with command in his career, but late last season he showed ground-ball rates that gave optimism for his future. A move to SD made him even more intriguing. Clayton Richard (illness) will return to the rotation soon, so it's unknown who exactly Ross would replace in the starting five when he's healthy. Jason Marquis or Eric Stults might be in jeopardy if they aren't pitching well by then.
