Cardinals | Pitching staff burning opposing teams

Fri, 27 Apr 2012 01:50:34 -0700

With a 1.49 ERA on the team's recent road trip, the St. Louis Cardinals starting pitchers have six consecutive quality starts and nine in the past 10 games. Since 1918, only four Cardinals pitchers have opened the year with a four-start streak of at least five innings and no more than one earned run. Dizzy Dean did it in 1937. Mort Cooper did in 1943. SP Kyle Lohse and SP Lance Lynn both have done so this month. The Cardinals' pitching is off to its stingiest start since 1981.

Cardinals | Lance Lynn remains undefeated

Sat, 21 Apr 2012 11:53:42 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Lance Lynn (3-0) allowed one run on four hits over seven innings in a victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates Friday, April 20, with one walk and four strikeouts. Lynn said after the game that his pitching mentality changed last season after he was moved from the starting rotation to the bullpen. "What I did when they moved me to the bullpen last year was challenge hitters, get ahead in the count and make them hit my pitch," he said. "When I was starting, I tried to nitpick. I'd get behind in the count and have to give the hitters good pitches to hit. I learned a lot from pitching out of the bullpen. I'm more aggressive and more confident now as a starter."
