Cardinals | Lance Lynn a tough-luck loser

Wed, 08 Apr 2015 15:17:23 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Lance Lynn allowed two hits, two runs (one earned) and a walk while striking out nine in a loss to the Chicago Cubs in his season debut Wednesday, April 8. Lynn threw 53 of his 87 pitches over six innings for strikes.

Fantasy Tip: Lynn ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) was facing a rather weak Cubs lineup, but he should be considered a legitimate daily play on a regular basis because of his strikeout upside.

Cardinals | Lance Lynn throws three innings

Wed, 18 Mar 2015 13:17:05 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Lance Lynn (hip) threw a three-inning simulation game Wednesday, March 18, and he showcased an improved changeup during the session. Although manager Mike Matheny did not confirm Lynn's next spring start, it is expected to be in approximately five days to keep Lynn on a normal rotation schedule.

Fantasy Tip: Lynn has averaged 16 wins and 186 strikeouts with a 3.48 ERA and 1.30 WHIP through 194 innings pitched over the past three seasons. He is often overlooked in drafts but should be considered a reliable starter to fill out your fantasy rotation. Continue to check back for updates throughout the spring, and unless there are setbacks, continue to target Lynn in the late middle rounds.

Cardinals | Lance Lynn to throw off mound

Fri, 13 Mar 2015 06:05:25 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Lance Lynn (hip) will throw off a mound Friday, March 13, and could start Tuesday, March 17.

Fantasy Tip: Lynn really stated his claim as a fantasy asset last season, and he's in the SP3 mix. His WHIP is still a little higher than we'd like, but the rest of his peripherals are great.

Cardinals | Lance Lynn receives MRI results

Mon, 09 Mar 2015 15:37:57 -0700

Updating a previous report, St. Louis Cardinals SP Lance Lynn (hip) said his MRI results confirmed he has a right hip flexor strain, and he said his schedule will be delayed. "It's good news. It's pretty much what we thought yesterday. Wasn't worried about it. Everyone is real happy with what we saw (in the MRI). I don't even know if I was scheduled to throw (a bullpen) tomorrow. We'll see how it goes when I get here. Hopefully I'll get a chance to play catch tomorrow, but I'm going to do what they tell me to do, so I'm where I need to be when we start the season."

Fantasy Tip: Lynn's three-year averages are impressive: 16 wins and 186 strikeouts with a 3.48 ERA and 1.30 WHIP through 194 innings pitched. Somehow, he is typically available far later than he should be in drafts and makes for an excellent option to fill out your fantasy rotation. The injury does not appear to be serious, and given there are no additional setbacks, continue to target Lynn in the late middle rounds.

Cardinals | Lance Lynn undergoing tests

Mon, 09 Mar 2015 11:34:00 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Lance Lynn (hip) will undergo tests on his left hip flexor strain Monday, March 9, to determine the severity of his injury. The Cardinals do not seem to be bracing for bad news, though, and Lynn is confident he will make his next spring start. He said he was having trouble getting his hip loose after taking breaks in between innings over the weekend.

Fantasy Tip: Lynn comes into the 2015 season as an undervalued pitching commodity after going 15-10 with a 2.74 ERA and 181 strikeouts in 203 2/3 innings. If his hip ailment turns out to be a non-factor, Lynn isn't a bad target in standard leagues as an anchor to your pitching staff.

Cardinals | Lance Lynn strains hip flexor

Sun, 08 Mar 2015 12:52:04 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Lance Lynn (hip) left his start against the Miami Marlins Sunday, March 8, due to a left hip flexor strain. He will be re-evaluated Monday, March 9, although he did not seem too concerned .

Fantasy Tip: Depending on the severity of the injury, Lynn could miss a few days or several weeks. If he is sidelined for an extended period of time, SPs Jaime Garcia, Marco Gonzales and Carlos Martinez could see several turns in the rotation at the beginning of the regular season. If healthy, Lynn is likely to be drafted in the early rounds of NL-only and mixed leagues.
