Tue, 19 Mar 2013 14:40:30 -0700 San Diego Padres SP Joe Wieland (elbow) will play catch off a mound Monday, March 25, after undergoing Tommy John surgery last July. He's been throwing from 150 feet and will have two more sessions of that length before next Monday. Wieland is optimistic that he'll pitch in a game this season.
Fantasy Tip: Wieland has the skills to be a mainstay in San Diego's rotation down the line. Keeper leaguers need to tuck his name away for the 2014 season and beyond.

Ps Anthony Bass, Casey Kelly, Tyson Ross, Eric Stults, Freddy Garcia and Robbie Erlin are all in the picture. SP Tim Stauffer (elbow) is about two weeks behind the other pitchers. SPs Andrew Cashner (thumb), Joe Wieland (elbow) and Cory Luebke (elbow) aren't options because they are rehabbing from injuries. Cashner is expected to be back on a mound by March 1 and Wieland and Luebke won't return until midseason or later after having Tommy John surgery.
