Dodgers | Yasmani Grandal not starting Tuesday

Tue, 25 Aug 2015 14:02:04 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers C Yasmani Grandal is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, Aug. 25, against the Cincinnati Reds. C A.J. Ellis is batting seventh against Reds SP John Lamb.

Fantasy Tip: Grandal ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) appears to be out of the lineup due to Lamb's presence and nothing else. Ellis ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) has a .600 average with one homer in five at-bats this past week, so if you're looking for a lower-cost catcher he may fit the bill.

Dodgers | Andre Ethier sitting Tuesday

Tue, 25 Aug 2015 13:51:47 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Andre Ethier is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, Aug. 25, against the Cincinnati Reds. OF Scott Van Slyke is hitting fifth against Reds SP John Lamb.

Fantasy Tip: Ethier ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) has the night off with Lamb, a left-handed pitcher, in the lineup. Van Slyke ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) has little fantasy value.

Reds | John Lamb to make debut Friday

Thu, 13 Aug 2015 15:53:11 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP John Lamb is expected to be promoted from Class AAA Louisville to make his major league debut against the Los Angeles Dodgers Friday, Aug. 14.

Fantasy Tip: Lamb was involved in the trade that sent Johnny Cueto to the Kansas City Royals before the trade deadline last month. The left-hander was 10-2 with a 2.67 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 117 strikeouts in 111 1/3 innings in two minor league stops. He's a bit of a different pitcher after Tommy John surgery, but he's reinvented himself this year and is certainly worth owning in dynasty leagues and could generate interest in deep mixed leagues if he stays in the rotation for the rest of the year. It's not smart to consider him on FantasyScore tomorrow night in his debut against the first-place Dodgers.

Reds | Cincy youngsters to be limited

Tue, 04 Aug 2015 16:31:34 -0700

Cincinnati Reds manager Bryan Price said all of the team's young pitchers, including SPs Anthony DeSclafani, Michael Lorenzen, Raisel Iglesias, David Holmberg, Keyvius Sampson, Robert Stephenson, Brandon Finnegan and John Lamb will have their innings monitored as the season wears on. "The biggest challenge is for a lot of guys who will be considered for call-ups for September or even earlier. We'll have guys who don't have that first major-league season where they pitched in September and had a chance to take their workload from 145 innings or 150 to 175 or 185. We'll have a lot of guys who we'll have to be cautious with their innings."

Fantasy Tip: That's not what owners of any of these pitchers want to hear, but it's a reality that often affects all young pitchers and their fantasy owners as the season winds down. On FantasyScore, none of the Reds young pitchers is ever a slam dunk, and their daily value will likely only continue to plummet if they are kept on pitch counts or innings limits.

Reds | Johnny Cueto dealt to KC

Sun, 26 Jul 2015 12:11:33 -0700

The Cincinnati Reds have acquired RP Brandon Finnegan and minor league Ps John Lamb and Cody Reed from the Kansas City Royals, in exchange for SP Johnny Cueto and cash considerations.

Fantasy Tip: Finnegan has been used exclusively as a reliever at the major league level but the Reds may opt to turn him back into a full-time starter, a role he excelled at in college. Lamb was 9-1 with a 2.67 ERA in 17 starts for Class AAA Omaha, while Reed was 7-7 with a 2.53 ERA in 18 games (15 starts) for Class AA Wichita. Of the three, Finnegan appears to have the most upside and should be added in NL-only leagues and monitored in deep mixed fantasy leagues.

Royals | KC acquires Johnny Cueto

Sun, 26 Jul 2015 12:07:54 -0700

Updating a previous report, the Kansas City Royals have acquired SP Johnny Cueto and cash considerations from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for Ps Brandon Finnegan, John Lamb and Cody Reed.

Fantasy Tip: Despite the change of scenery, Cueto ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) should continue to be viewed as an elite starting pitching option in FantasyScore. If anything, a move to the American League might help him, because he will call Kauffman Stadium home instead of the hitter-friendly Great American Ball Park.

Royals | John Lamb missing velocity

Mon, 25 Feb 2013 08:46:09 -0800

Kansas City Royals SP John Lamb's velocity was in the mid-80s in his spring debut Sunday, Feb. 24. He never touched 90 mph. He used to touch 94 mph before having Tommy John surgery 19 months ago and has yet to regain that velocity.

Royals | John Lamb pain-free

Tue, 19 Feb 2013 15:29:53 -0800

Kansas City Royals SP John Lamb (elbow) is in camp this spring and is pain-free after coming back from Tommy John surgery. He's not hitting low- to mid-90s on his fastball like he did before his surgery yet, but he's not far off. Lamb has also added a new low-stress curveball to his arsenal. "I don't care how hard it is or how much it's breaking." Lamb said. "All I care is it's not hurting my elbow right now. And it's not, but… It's breaking a lot more than I've ever had a curveball break. And it's a lot harder than I've ever thrown a curveball." Lamb has also dropped 40 pounds to 197 pounds over the past 14 months. He doesn't think the drop in weight will affect his velocity at all, though. Kansas City just hopes he can pitch a full season in the minors, although there is a chance he could get called up late in the season.

The Kansas City Royals added Ps John Lamb, Mike Montgomery, Chris Dwyer, Donnie Joseph, Justin Marks and Juan Gutierrez to their 40-man roster Tuesday, Nov. 20, in order to protect them from the Rule 5 Draft. Backup C Brett Hayes reached a one-year, $600,000 deal Tuesday.
