Los Angeles Dodgers 2B Alexander Guerrero is struggling with the defensive switch from shortstop to second base. The team prefers to use either Guerrero or 2B Dee Gordon at the keystone because they are both on the active roster.
Gordon is more athletic and has added some muscle, but Guerrero has a broader body and uppercut swing. Guerrero has yet to show smoothness in the lower body as was expected.
Fantasy Tip: Gordon is clearly superior defensively than Guerrero right now, and if Guerrero doesn't impress with the stick, Gordon could win the job on opening day. Gordon is a nice little sleeper in NL-only leagues.

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said the starting second base job is up in the air between 2Bs Alexander Guerrero, Dee Gordon, Chone Figgins and Justin Turner.
Fantasy Tip: This might just be coach speak by Mattingly. All along it's been expected that Guerrero is the favorite for the job. That could change with a poor spring performance, however. Guerrero is risky because we don't know much about him. In mixed leagues, he's safer as middle infield insurance.

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly indicated the team may use a platoon of SS Dee Gordon and 2B Alexander Guerrero at second base this season. Gordon would play mostly against right-handed pitchers, while Guerrero would play against mostly left-handed pitchers. Mattingly said he does not believe a platoon would affect Guerrero's development.
Fantasy Tip: Gordon and Guerrero probably should be considered as NL-only options if they do share time at second base this season.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are now calling the battle for the starting second base job an open competition. Doubt about the fielding of 2B Alexander Guerrero mean SS Dee Gordon and SS Miguel Rojas, also candidates for the starting second base job, have a chance to start.

Los Angeles Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti said 2B Alexander Guerrero is the favorite to open the season as the starting second baseman this year. SSs Dee Gordon and Miguel Rojas were also mentioned as candidates.

Los Angeles Dodgers SS Dee Gordon will play for Tigres del Licey in the Dominican Republic during winter ball, and he is being listed as an outfielder.
Fantasy Tip: The outfield is pretty packed in L.A., but middle infield doesn't appear to be an option for Gordon either, with Hanley Ramirez and Alexander Guerrero in the mix. If he does gain eligibility at OF, it will help his fantasy appeal somewhat, but he still has a long way to go before re-emerging as a must-start fantasy option consideration.

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Andre Ethier (ankle) worked out with the team Tuesday, Oct. 1, and is hoping to make the playoff roster for the National League Division Series as a pinch hitter and later get into a game in the outfield. "It's probably just a hitting role, that's what our best hope is," Ethier said after the workout. "Who knows, maybe we wake up Saturday and Sunday and it feels good enough to go full-go. Hitting-wise it feels good enough. We'll worry about what to do after I get on first base then. I just want to figure out a way to contribute anyway I can and not become a hindrance." He hit and threw Tuesday but didn't do any running. The team would like to see Ethier run before putting him on the roster. 2B Skip Schumaker will start in center field in Game 1 Thursday, Oct. 3, but SS Dee Gordon and OFs Scott Van Slyke and Jerry Hairston Jr. worked out there Tuesday.

Los Angeles Dodgers SS Dee Gordon took grounders at second base during pregame warmups Friday, Sept. 27. "I don't think Dee playing second base is part of the equation," manager Don Mattingly said. "I think the value of Dee is to use him late to steal a bag in a close game."
