Pirates | Pittsburgh looking at two Tampa SPs

Sun, 24 Jul 2016 12:12:36 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SPs Jake Odorizzi and Matt Moore may be trade targets for the Pittsburgh Pirates leading up to the trade deadline.

Fantasy Tip: Odorizzi and Moore have been popular names in trade rumors, but the Pirates are looking to add a starting pitcher. Either pitcher would be an upgrade for Pittsburgh and would continue to be decent fantasy options in mixed leagues.

Rays | Jake Odorizzi shuts down A's

Sat, 23 Jul 2016 00:38:07 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Jake Odorizzi pitched eight scoreless frames against the Oakland Athletics on Friday, July 22. He allowed five hits, walked no one and struck out five. Odorizzi was not involved in the decision.

Fantasy Tip: After a couple of tough outings to start the month, Odorizzi has rebounded to make back-to-back excellent starts: 14 IP, 12 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 12 K's. Only an equally impressive performance from Oakland's Sean Manaea kept Odorizzi out of the win column on Friday. The right-hander should be owned in all AL-only and deep mixed leagues, and he's an interesting option in standard formats as well.

Rays | Jake Odorizzi stymies Orioles

Sun, 17 Jul 2016 13:31:01 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Jake Odorizzi collected only his second victory since May 24 against the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday, July 17, giving up two runs on seven hits while fanning seven in six frames.

Fantasy Tip: Odorizzi is one of several Tampa Bay pitchers rumored to be on the move, so this kind of effort against one of the highest-scoring offenses in baseball may help to ease the concerns interested teams may have in him. The All-Star break may have done the 26-year-old some good, but owners would be wise to make him prove it again versus the Oakland Athletics on Thursday.

Rangers | Texas interested in most Tampa starters

Sun, 17 Jul 2016 13:13:28 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SPs Jake Odorizzi and Drew Smyly are possible trade targets for the Texas Rangers, but the Rangers are not pursuing SP Chris Archer.

Fantasy Tip: The Rangers are looking to add to their starting rotation and could add either Odorizzi or Smyly. They likely would see a boost in their value since they would be playing for a better team and would be decent options in mixed leagues.

Marlins | Miami fishing for starters

Wed, 13 Jul 2016 07:18:06 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Jake Odorizzi, San Diego Padres SP Drew Pomeranz and Oakland Athletics SP Rich Hill are pitchers that the Miami Marlins are pursuing.

Fantasy Tip: Odorizzi and Hill would benefit from a move to the National League, whereas Pomeranz would remain about the same. Hill and Pomeranz are great in the SP3 range, and Odorizzi is an SP5.

Red Sox | BOS looking at Jake Odorizzi

Mon, 11 Jul 2016 00:10:02 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Jake Odorizzi is being looked at by the Boston Red Sox, who sent senior vice president of baseball operations Frank Wren to look at Odorizzi.

Fantasy Tip: A low salary and decent numbers (4.33 ERA, 8.49 strikeouts per nine innings) should make Odorizzi a treat for the team that picks him up. Odorizzi is worth watching based on where he ends up, if he does go to a new team. Those numbers could get better with time.

Red Sox | David Ortiz connects on 22nd home run

Sun, 10 Jul 2016 15:30:34 -0700

Boston Red Sox DH David Ortiz homered for the third time in four games against the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday, July 10, lifting a first-inning pitch from SP Jake Odorizzi over the fence in left.

Fantasy Tip: Big Papi ends the first half ranking second in the AL in average (.332) and second in the majors in RBI (72), which isn't too shabby for a 40-year-old man set to retire at the end of the year. He'll make his 10th All-Star Game appearance on Tuesday and figures to draw a huge ovation from the crowd in San Diego when he does so. In addition to his aforementioned prodigious totals, Ortiz has scored 42 runs and a team-high 22 home runs.

Rays | Jake Odorizzi struggles against Halos

Tue, 05 Jul 2016 18:48:42 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Jake Odorizzi was tuned up for seven runs, nine hits and two walks with four strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings in his outing Tuesday, July 5, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He threw 67 of his 98 pitches for strikes. There were several scouts watching his performance.

Fantasy Tip: Odorizzi's name has been bandied about plenty in the weeks leading up to the July 31 MLB non-waiver trade deadline, but he didn't look very good in this one. If he moves to a contender, sees more run support and has a chance for more wins, obviously his fantasy appeal increases.

Rangers | Texas looking at Matt Moore, Odorizzi

Thu, 30 Jun 2016 10:56:49 -0700

The Texas Rangers have had their scouts watching Tampa Bay Rays SPs Matt Moore and Jake Odorizzi this week as they look to upgrade their pitching before the trade deadline.

Fantasy Tip: Moore held the Red Sox scoreless in his outing Wednesday and has looked a lot better of late after struggling after a fine April. Odorizzi has been decent this year with a 3.93 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 8.4 K/9. Both pitchers wouldn't see a huge boost in fantasy value with a move to Texas and that hitter-friendly park, but they'd have more chances for wins on a first-place club.

Rays | Marlins inquire over Jake Odorizzi

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 17:22:02 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Jake Odorizzi has drawn interest from the Miami Marlins. The club is looking at both starting pitchers and relievers, and they've had "preliminary contact" with the Rays concerning Odorizzi.

Fantasy Tip: Odorizzi has managed to succeed over the past few seasons while pitching in the always rugged AL East division, so it'd be extremely intriguing if he were to land on a National League team. This year, the 26-year-old right-hander is 3-3 with a 3.63 ERA and 1.19 WHIP, while racking up 82 strikeouts in 84 1/3 innings pitched. That solid strikeout rate would undoubtedly go up if he were to go to the NL.
