Orioles | Matt Wieters not starting Tuesday

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 12:54:50 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters is out of the starting lineup Tuesday, April 26, against the Tampa Bay Rays. C Caleb Joseph is hitting eighth against Rays SP Jake Odorizzi.

Fantasy Tip: This appears to be a normal day off for Wieters, who was the catcher in the Monday game. He has a .239 average in April with only one home run, but you should keep an eye on Wieters for fantasy purposes.

Rays | Jake Odorizzi shaky Thursday

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 16:33:45 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Jake Odorizzi allowed eight hits (one home run) and five earned runs while walking one and striking out three in four innings for a no-decision against the Boston Red Sox Thursday, April 21.

Fantasy Tip: Odorizzi was lucky to not be saddled with the loss, as the Rays came back to bail him out. Give him a pass in this one, though, as pitching in Boston is never an easy task. With strikeout upside and good control as more of a ground-ball pitcher, Odorizzi has breakout potential in 2016.

Rays | Jake Odorizzi rings up 10 Ks

Tue, 05 Apr 2016 20:03:46 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Jake Odorizzi allowed two runs - one earned - and four hits over 5 2/3 innings with two walks and 10 strikeouts in a no-decision Tuesday, April 5, against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Fantasy Tip: Odorizzi threw 111 pitches, so he couldn't quite secure the quality start, but fantasy owners can't complain too much about the nice stat line to start.

Rays | Jake Odorizzi struggles Thursday

Thu, 31 Mar 2016 16:26:51 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Jake Odorizzi allowed eight runs on six hits in one inning against the Pittsburgh Pirates Thursday, March 31.

Fantasy Tip: Odorizzi finished the spring with a 6.92 ERA but will be one of the team's top starting pitchers this season. Odorizzi should be a middle-round option in mixed leagues and can be used as No. 3 or No. 4 starting pitcher. He is scheduled to face the Toronto Blue Jays in his first regular season start and would be a risky option because of Toronto's power potential.

Rays | Jake Odorizzi makes adjustment

Mon, 07 Mar 2016 05:43:15 -0800

Tampa Bay Rays SP Jake Odorizzi made a quick adjustment in his delivery Sunday, March 6, after pitching coach Jim Hickey spotted Odorizzi's head leaning to the left. This caused Odorizzi to lose his line to the plate and walk two batters.

Fantasy Tip: Odorizzi has some strikeout potential and is a nice chip on the fantasy back end of the rotation.

Rays | Jake Odorizzi bulks up

Thu, 18 Feb 2016 11:26:54 -0800

Tampa Bay Rays SP Jake Odorizzi "put on a little bit more muscle, more weight," according to manager Kevin Cash.

Fantasy Tip: Odorizzi could be a breakout candidate in 2016 if his dominance and control both meet in the middle ground. Target him as a middle-rounds sleeper for your fantasy staff.

Dodgers | Rotation is still a priority for Dodgers

Fri, 18 Dec 2015 13:49:47 -0800

Cleveland Indians SPs Carlos Carrasco and Danny Salazar, and Tampa Bay Rays SP Jake Odorizzi are trade targets currently involved in ongoing negotiations to be dealt to the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: The Los Angeles rotation is in need of a No. 2 after the departure of Zack Grienke this offseason. Heading to the National League would be a fantasy boon for any of the trio of American League starters, so stay tuned for updates on what develops from the Dodger's trade talks.

Rays | Jake Odorizzi offered extension

Mon, 07 Dec 2015 09:47:10 -0800

Tampa Bay Rays SP Jake Odorizzi was offered a multi-year extension, according to his agent Jason Wood. Wood and Odorizzi are working on a counter offer.

Fantasy Tip: Odorizzi went 9-9 with a 3.35 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 28 starts (169 1/3 innings) for the Rays last season. He's often overlooked as a reliable, top end starting pitcher for fantasy purposes, but remaining in Tampa is arguably one of the best things to maintain his alluring fantasy appeal.

Tampa Bay Rays SP Jake Odorizzi (9-9) allowed one unearned run on four hits over seven innings in a victory over the Miami Marlins Thursday, Oct. 1, with two walks and seven strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Odorizzi ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) is heading into the offseason on a high note. He recorded his longest outing since May 25, and won for the third time in his last four decisions.
