Third base is a position seen as a need for the Cleveland Indians, although general manager Chris Antonetti and manager Terry Francona each raved about the potential of 3B Lonnie Chisenhall Monday, Oct. 7.
Fantasy Tip: Chisenhall is serviceable at the plate against right-handed pitching, but abysmal against left-handed starters. If the team decides they want a full-time option at the hot corner, Chisenhall might be moved. His fantasy outlook is murky at best right now.

The Cleveland Indians designated 3B Mark Reynolds for assignment Thursday, Aug. 8. Reynolds signed a one-year, $6 million deal last winter but was hitting just .215 with 15 home runs and 48 RBIs with 123 strikeouts. He had only two home runs since May.
Fantasy Tip: Reynolds has been an all-or-nothing player for much of his career, and after a hot start he faded quickly for the Tribe. He could latch on with another team, though, so don't forget about him entirely. This cements Lonnie Chisenhall's status as the club's everyday third baseman.

The Cleveland Indians are interested in trading for Chicago Cubs SP Matt Garza but are not willing to include 3B Lonnie Chisenhall in the trade. The team still believes Chisenhall will be a good player in the future.

Cleveland Indians 3B Mark Reynolds takes over as the team's regular third baseman following the demotion of 3B Lonnie Chisenhall to Triple-A Columbus. While Reynolds had 26 errors at third base in 114 games, he will start there regularly. INF Mike Aviles and OF Ryan Raburn can also play third base.

The Cleveland Indians optioned 3B Lonnie Chisenhall to Triple-A Columbus and recalled SP David Huff.
Fantasy Tip: Chisenhall has gotten off to a rough start, and he may need to spend a few weeks at Triple-A to work out the kinks in his swing. Mike Aviles and Mark Reynolds will probably take over the bulk of the time at third base.

Cleveland Indians 3B Lonnie Chisenhall will receive a few days off to work on his swing with hitting coach Ty Van Burkleo. Chisenhall will be back in the lineup Wednesday, May 8. He's hitting only .231 (18-for-78) with four doubles, three home runs and 11 RBIs, including just .095 (2-for-21) against left-handers and .281 (16-for-57) against righties. "Lonnie is going to make his living on fastballs," said manager Terry Francona. "Right now he's fouling them off down along the left field line as opposed to getting the head of the bat to it."
Fantasy Tip: You'll have to do without Chisenhall for the next couple days. Mike Aviles will likely fill in at the hot corner, and he could continue to take playing time away from Chisenhall if he doesn't improve against southpaws. Keep an eye on this situation and how it evolves when Chisenhall returns.

Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona said hitting coach Ty Van Burkleo has spotted a problem with 3B Lonnie Chisenhall's swing and that Chisenhall is working on solving the problem. "All spring he was thinking left-center," Francona said. "Not necessarily wanting to hit the ball there, but being lined up so he could cover the plate. And he did it extremely well. I think as he continued into the season, his batting stance started to close off more and more and more, and I don't think he realized it." Francona said he will look to give Chisenhall more days off against left-handed pitchers.

Cleveland Indians 3B Lonnie Chisenhall is hitting .471 (8-for-17) with two home runs and eight RBIs in seven spring games and is feeling great at the plate as he competes for a roster spot. "It's early. I have less than 20 at-bats," Chisenhall said. "But I'm happy with where I am right now. I feel comfortable at the plate. Every now and then, I feel a little rusty up there on certain pitches and things like that, but I feel good so far."

Cleveland Indians 3B Lonnie Chisenhall managed just a .184 batting average last season, and a .227 average in his major league career, against left-handed pitching. He also struggled against southpaws in the minors, and could be rested against lefties with SS Mike Aviles getting starts at third base.
