Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona moved 3B Lonnie Chisenhall to the cleanup spot Monday, April 21, against the Kansas City Royals with C-3B Carlos Santana (rest) resting. "He's been swinging the bat about as good as we've ever seen him," Francona said. "He's got good numbers against (Royals SP Jeremy Guthrie), and it keeps everybody else in place. I think he's swinging the bat really well."

Cleveland Indians 3B Lonnie Chisenhall will make the opening day roster despite losing out on the starting third base job. He could see action as the designated hitter early in the year if he's not playing third base, or he could be used off the bench as a pinch hitter. "It's up in the air," Chisenhall said of his role. "They told me whatever they ask me to do, be ready. Whether that's pinch run, play defense, start, DH, play left field, right field, whatever they ask me to do. It's one of those situations that, when I get in there, make the most of my opportunities."
Fantasy Tip: Things could change at the hot corner in a hurry if Carlos Santana's defense betrays him. But for now, Chisenhall's value is limited to corner infield depth in AL-only leagues.

Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona acknowledged Tuesday, March 25, that C Carlos Santana will be the team's starting third baseman to open the season, and it won't involve a platoon with 3B Lonnie Chisenhall. Santana will also serve as the backup catcher.
Fantasy Tip: There was a good chance Santana would have eventually gained 3B eligibility, but this confirms he'll do so rather quickly. Santana is a very valuable asset because of his multi-positional eligibility in all leagues.

The Cleveland Indians optioned SP Trevor Bauer and RP C.C. Lee to Triple-A Columbus Monday, March 24, meaning SPs Carlos Carrasco and Josh Tomlin will battle for the final rotation spot. RPs Scott Atchison and Blake Wood are fighting for the final bullpen job. 3B Lonnie Chisenhall was told he will make the active roster, as well. The Indians also re-assigned 1Bs Bryan LaHair and David Cooper and C Luke Carlin.
Fantasy Tip: Bauer can be dumped in standard mixed leagues now, but keep him on your radar. There's a chance he'll be back up soon if a rotation spot opens up.

Cleveland Indians C Carlos Santana has looked out of place at third base during spring games and right now, 3B Lonnie Chisenhall and every other third baseman in camp looks much better than Santana on defense at the hot corner. Santana hasn't received a lot of opportunities there and when he has, he's looked stiff and uncomfortable.
Fantasy Tip: It doesn't look good for Santana gaining positional eligibility at third base if he keeps this up, but it's also still pretty early in camp.

Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona said Monday, Feb. 24, that 3B Lonnie Chisenhall has had a solid camp to this point.
Fantasy Tip: Chisenhall is sharing reps at third base with Carlos Santana, and that might continue into the season given Chisenhall's struggles against left-handed pitching. Chisenhall is worth a look in some AL-only fantasy leagues, but he needs to show offensive improvement to warrant a spot on mixed rosters.
