Pirates | Gerrit Cole continues dominant stretch

Sat, 23 May 2015 06:39:11 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Gerrit Cole won his sixth game of the season over the New York Mets Friday, May 22. He allowed a single run on six hits and a walk with 10 strikeouts over 8 1/3 innings pitched.

Fantasy Tip: Cole ($8,700, 17.4% of cap) is pitching his way into the elite tier of starters, as he currently sits with a 2.05 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 9.9 K/9. His 2.27 FIP doesn't suggest there is correction looming, either. There may be cause for a brief pause against a high-end offense, but at this point, it appears Cole can be started regardless of his opposition.

Pirates | Gerrit Cole is a road warrior

Mon, 11 May 2015 22:47:23 -0700

Fantasy Tip: Cole is now 5-0 with a 2.36 ERA over his past seven road outings. His next start will come at Wrigley Field against the Chicago Cubs Saturday, May 16, so FantasyScore players will want to remember Cole, even with a high price tag of $8,700 (or 17.4% of cap).

Pirates | Gerrit Cole looks to stay hot

Tue, 05 May 2015 21:49:15 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Gerrit Cole was named the National League Pitcher of the Month for April, going 4-0 with a 1.76 ERA. He is the first Pirates pitcher since Randy Tomlin (June 1992) to win the award.

Fantasy Tip: Cole is 8-0 with a 2.40 ERA over his past 10 starts dating back to last season. He is fairly expensive at $8,700 (or 17.4% of cap) in FantasyScore, but he has been extremely consistent and is worth the money.

Pirates | Gerrit Cole locked in on the mound

Thu, 30 Apr 2015 15:38:43 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Gerrit Cole has won four consecutive starts with 29 strikeouts over 25 2/3 innings and a 1.05 ERA. He has held opposing hitters to a .185/.242/.196 slash line, too.

Fantasy Tip: Cole ($8,100, 16.2% of cap) appears to be emerging as a high-end arm in the real and fake game. He now has 286 innings at the majors, and the arrow is pointing straight up for the 24-year-old righty and 2011 first overall selection. FantasyScore players will want to consider Cole whenever he takes the hill, and especially in favorable matchups.

Pirates | Gerrit Cole picks up third win

Sat, 25 Apr 2015 05:33:40 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Gerrit Cole allowed one run on seven hits in 7 2/3 innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks Friday, April 24, to pick up his third win of the season. He struck out seven batters and walked two during the game.

Fantasy Tip: Cole ($7,300, 14.6% of cap) has allowed only one run in each of his last three starts and struck out 27 batters in 24 2/3 innings so far this season. He is scheduled to pitch against the Chicago Cubs in his next game and could be a solid starting option for FantasyScore owners.

Pirates | Gerrit Cole strikeout rate improving

Sun, 19 Apr 2015 13:24:57 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Gerrit Cole has seen his strikeout rate per nine innings improve from 9.0 to 11.5, thanks to his slider being thrown twice as much as last year.

Fantasy Tip: Cole ($7,300, 14.6% of cap) has become a feared pitcher thanks to some strong performances for the Pirates. Daily leagues that count strikeouts will reward Cole for solid efforts, and you should start Cole in your leagues.
