Padres | Christian Friedrich throws seven scoreless

Fri, 27 May 2016 23:14:19 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Christian Friedrich scattered three hits over seven shutout innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday, May 27. It was his first major-league win since July 13, 2012.

Fantasy Tip: Friedrich has pitched well in two of his three outings and even managed to minimize the damage in his third, a sloppy turn against the Los Angeles Dodgers. His 1.1 K/BB ratio is a concern, but Friedrich should have some NL-only appeal, at least in the short term.

Padres | Christian Friedrich has decent outing

Sat, 14 May 2016 06:20:35 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Christian Friedrich allowed one run on four hits in six innings against the Milwaukee Brewers Friday, May 13, to suffer his first loss of the season. He struck out four batters and walked six during the game.

Fantasy Tip: Friedrich pitched well in his first start of the season and could receive another start in the near future. He could be an option in NL-only leagues but can be avoided in most standard leagues.

Padres | Christian Friedrich starting Friday

Fri, 13 May 2016 13:45:33 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Christian Friedrich is having his contract selected from the minors Friday, May 13, in order to start against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Fantasy Tip: Friedrich will make the spot start Friday in place of Andrew Cashner (hamstring), who could be pushed back to Saturday. Friedrich carries no real fantasy value in traditional leagues because he's likely to be sent back down after this start. He was only striking out 6.3 hitters per nine innings in the minors this year in four starts, and he's a lotto ticket as a deep sleeper as your second starter in daily contests tonight.

Rockies | Christian Friedrich expected to start Saturday

Fri, 20 Jun 2014 11:02:58 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Christian Friedrich is expected to make the start for the team Saturday, June 21, against the Milwaukee Brewers. It'll be his first appearance in the majors since July 28 of 2012. Friedrich is 1-8 with a 7.89 ERA in 13 starts for Triple-A Colorado Springs this year. The move isn't official, but the team removed him from his last start, and he's currently on the 40-man roster.

Fantasy Tip: Friedrich has shown flashes of brilliance in his young career, but injuries have mostly sidetracked him. His numbers on the farm weren't pretty this year, and you shouldn't expect him to suddenly turn things around now that he's back in the majors. The matchup against the Brew Crew is not ideal, either.

Rockies | Jordan Lyles seeking rotation spot

Wed, 12 Mar 2014 07:55:32 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Jordan Lyles is one of the arms competing for the open rotation spot that's likely to occur with Jhoulys Chacin (shoulder) injured. Lyles tossed three scoreless innings Tuesday, March 11, with four strikeouts. Lyles holds a 1.13 spring ERA and has made some adjustments with pitching coach Jim Wright. The right-hander has improved the angle on his fastball that may force more ground balls from opponents.

Fantasy Tip: If you have to dive into this SP pool, hold your nose. The competition also involves Franklin Morales and Christian Friedrich. Lyles once had a mildly intriguing pedigree but is in a tough situation to succeed, even with his grounder background. Tread carefully, NL-only poachers.
