Padres | Huston Street to land on DL

Sat, 05 May 2012 15:52:51 -0700

San Diego Padres RP Huston Street (lat) is headed to the disabled list with a strained lat. His replacement for saves hasn't been determined yet, but Andrew Cashner is the likely candidate to step in.

Fantasy Tip: Though he won't require surgery, Street's history of injury troubles and slow healing should prompt you to brace for a break exceeding the minimum time. Luke Gregerson has long been considered closer-worthy in the past but has mostly been used as a seventh-inning option, and Cashner has chiefly manned the eighth. Cashner's stuff fits the role better, as well. Either is worth a speculative pickup.

Cubs | Anthony Rizzo acquired

Fri, 06 Jan 2012 11:22:01 -0800

The Chicago Cubs have acquired 1B Anthony Rizzo and P Zach Cates from the San Diego Padres for SP Andrew Cashner and OF Kyung-Min Na.

Fantasy Tip: This essentially puts the Cubbies out of the running for Prince Fielder. Rizzo will compete for the starting job in spring training at first base with Bryan LaHair, who Theo Epstein touted as a starter just yesterday. Both young lefty sticks possess plenty of pop and upside; they're both worth small investments in mixed leagues and have the potential to play a large role on any NL-only roster. Back in SD, Yonder Alonso, who was already slated to start at 1B, makes for a more comfortable investment in NL-only leagues. He's worth a minimal risk in deep mixed leagues as depth for your corner infield.
