San Diego Padres SP Andrew Cashner is being pursued hard by the Baltimore Orioles, who aren't necessarily the front runner to acquire him, according to sources. The Miami Marlins and Texas Rangers are also possibilities.
Fantasy Tip: Cashner has been good his last three starts with a 2.55 ERA and 23 K's in 17 2/3 innings. Two of those starts have been on the road, which has been his weakness this season with a 6.23 ERA. He'll lose luster leaving Petco Park, but he'll remain a back-end option in fantasy rotations because of his rejuvenated strikeout prowess.

San Diego Padres SP Andrew Cashner allowed three runs on four hits, including two homers, in six innings against the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday, July 26. He walked three and struck out six.
Fantasy Tip: Cashner got a no-decision when Brad Hand couldn't hold the lead, but this was the fourth time in five starts since returning from the DL where the righty pitched well enough to earn the "W." Cashner is trending in the right direction and is an interesting stash candidate based on the likelihood of being traded.

San Diego Padres SP Andrew Cashner and C Derek Norris are among the players the team is reportedly "pushing hard" to move ahead of the trade deadline on Sunday, July 31.
Fantasy Tip: It should come as no surprise either player is available. Cashner has been on the block for some time, while Norris brings a little pop to a position that is lacking it across the league. It helps the Padres are comfortable with backup Christian Bethancourt and also have prospect Austin Hedges waiting in the wings. Hedges is tearing it up at Class AAA El Paso, batting .367 with 17 homers and 61 RBI in 47 games. Both Bethancourt and Hedges should be on fantasy rosters should Norris get dealt.

The Miami Marlins have reportedly discussed sending 1B Josh Naylor to the San Diego Padres in a potential deal involving SP Andrew Cashner.
Fantasy Tip: Naylor is a 19-year-old left-handed-hitting prospect currently playing for Class A Greensboro. He is batting .365 with nine home runs, 53 RBI and 10 steals through 84 games and is unlikely to have a fantasy impact in the next two or three years, although he should be on the radar of owners in dynasty leagues.

According to multiple sources, nearly 10 MLB teams have expressed interest in trading for San Diego Padres SP Andrew Cashner. The Baltimore Orioles, Detroit Tigers, Houston Astros, Miami Marlins, San Francisco Giants, Texas Rangers and Toronto Blue Jays are among the clubs that have talked to the Padres in recent days about the 29-year-old right-hander.
Fantasy Tip: Cashner is 4-7 with a 4.79 ERA this season but he has allowed just two runs on seven hits over his last two outings, with no walks and 17 strikeouts. He will become a free agent after the season, making it almost certain that he will be traded to a contender within the next few days. Cashner should be viewed as a decent fantasy option regardless of the uniform he's wearing.
