Sat, 18 May 2013 11:24:34 -0700 According to a team source, the New York Mets could demote struggling 1B Ike Davis to the minor leagues as soon as next week. Members of the organization's front office are reportedly more in favor of the move than manager Terry Collins. Davis snapped an 0-for-24 streak against the Chicago Cubs Friday, May 17. Fantasy Tip: OF Andrew Brown, who was recently demoted to Triple-A Las Vegas, played first base for the first time this season Friday, and would appear to be the most likely candidate to be called up if Davis is sent down. INFs Zach Lutz and Josh Satin are also candidates, although Satin is not on the 40-man roster.

He might be a good buy-low option. He had his most productive month with 24 RBIs last June and hit nine homers in July. You're going to have to bite the bullet with his low batting average.
Thu, 16 May 2013 15:07:30 -0700 New York Mets manager Terry Collins said struggling 1B Ike Davis will remain in the cleanup spot this weekend, at least until Sunday, May 19, when they face a left-handed pitcher. Davis went 0-for-5 with four strikeouts Thursday, May 16, to drop his average to .157. He is hitless in his last 22 at-bats. "Through this weekend," Collins said. "I told him last week that this week, when we play against right-handed pitchers, he's going to hit fourth. That's where he belongs. And that's where he's supposed to hit." Collins said opposing pitchers are feeding Davis with plenty of offspeed pitches, but Davis said he's struggling because he's missing fastballs early in the count. Fantasy Tip: Davis is severely testing Collins' and fantasy owners' patience. He's notoriously a slow starter in April, but now his slump has leaked into mid-May, and he hasn't shown any signs of turning it around. In shallow leagues, it's worth considering dropping him for better options. Mitch Moreland and James Loney are a few peaking first basemen, for example. In deeper leagues, he needs to be benched for the forseeable future.

However, manager Terry Collins will put Davis back in the cleanup spot Wednesday, May 15. C John Buck is batting cleanup Tuesday. Fantasy Tip: Davis has struggled mightily so far this season, especially against left-handed hurlers. In shallow leagues, Davis might not might be worth the roster spot right now, and he should definitely be benched against most lefties right now in all other formats.

Manager Terry Collins said Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jeff Locke's "cross-fire" delivery is very tough on lefties. Davis will return to the lineup against another southpaw Friday, May 10. Fantasy Tip: Davis continues to struggle, so this was an easy decision. Collins also wanted to get Andrew Brown and Juan Lagares some playing time in the outfield. If you're still riding Davis, it wouldn't be smart to start him against lefties, at least right now. Benching him altogether isn't dumb, either.

OF Andrew Brown was brought up to breathe life into the outfield. Collins mentioned how Brown was hitting lefties well at Triple-A Las Vegas. Brown was hitting .286 (8-for-28) against lefties and .400 (28-for-70) against righties. Fantasy Tip: It looks like Collins plans to use Brown mainly against left-handed pitchers, and he could spell Ike Davis at first base on days the team faces a tough lefty. Juan Lagares will mainly be used as a defensive replacement late in games, so at the moment, Brown looks to have more value in NL leagues than Lagares.

"So we've tried to get him to where he covers the outside part of the plate. Ike has moved up on the plate to take away the outside pitch. And I thought last night, the two balls he hit to left field, were the start. If he starts going that way to where he's going to use more of the field to hit, he's got some better opportunities to drive some runs in. I hope the home run gets him going also." Davis went 1-for-4 with a homer Thursday, April 25, but he also struck out two times.

"We've got to get Ike going," manager Terry Collins said. "We're heading into May here. We need to get him swinging the bat like he's capable of. I don't know if he's trying to put too much pressure on himself to hit homers." Fantasy Tip: Davis is a very streaky hitter and is known for starting slow in April. Well, he's done it another year, and it has become very frustrating for his fantasy owners. If you haven't already, it might be time to bench Davis until he shows signs of life.

"Lucas has played pretty well in left field right now," Collins said. "Now, if I go to him today and say, 'Look, you need to start taking groundballs at first base,' I'm not sure what kind of messages that sends."
