Athletics | Ike Davis' season over

Fri, 21 Aug 2015 16:17:02 -0700

Oakland Athletics 1B Ike Davis (hip) has a torn hip labrum and will need to undergo surgery.

Fantasy Tip: You can drop Davis in all single-year formats. The season-ending injury basically cements regular playing time for Mark Canha ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) for the remainder of the season. He's still a sleeper pick on FantasyScore, and he's hit better against right-handers in 2015.

Athletics | Ike Davis put on DL

Wed, 19 Aug 2015 10:31:36 -0700

Oakland Athletics 1B Ike Davis (hip) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hip Wednesday, Aug. 19, and OF Jake Smolinski was recalled from Class AAA Nashville in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Smolinski could see occasional starts here and there, but his fantasy value will be limited to deep AL-only leagues. Mark Canha ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) is the real winner here, as he should become an everyday player again. He has actually hit much better against righties this year, and he can be a cheap, effective sleeper pick in daily games in the right matchups.

Athletics | Ike Davis not in lineup

Wed, 12 Aug 2015 12:55:05 -0700

Oakland Athletics 1B Ike Davis is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, Aug. 12. OF Mark Canha is starting at first base and hitting seventh against Toronto Blue Jays SP R.A. Dickey.

Fantasy Tip: Canha ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) actually has hit better against right-handers in 2015, going 44-for-166 (.265) with all eight of his long balls. However, he's nothing more than a deep sleeper and help with salary cap relief on FantasyScore. Dickey is perhaps one of the hottest starting pitchers of late and likes pitching at home this year.

Athletics | Ike Davis playing Saturday

Sat, 08 Aug 2015 12:02:39 -0700

Oakland Athletics 1B Ike Davis will bat seventh against Houston Astros SP Collin McHugh Saturday, Aug. 8.

Fantasy Tip: Davis ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) returns to action after sitting out against left-handed SP Dallas Keuchel Friday, Aug. 7. He is batting .364 (8-for-22) against Houston and is 2-for-3 with a double against McHugh in his career, making him a decent value play in FantasyScore this afternoon.

Athletics | Ike Davis in two-hole

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 16:06:54 -0700

Oakland Athletics 1B Ike Davis is hitting second in the batting order against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Mike Bolsinger Wednesday, July 29.

Fantasy Tip: Davis ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) could be in line for a permanent move up in order after Ben Zobrist was traded away yesterday. That would be a positive development for his daily fantasy value. He's a decent value option for tonight's games on FantasyScore.

Athletics | Ike Davis returns to action

Sun, 26 Jul 2015 11:38:09 -0700

Oakland Athletics 1B Ike Davis will bat fifth and play first base against San Francisco Giants SP Tim Hudson July 26. DH/1B Billy Butler is getting the day off.

Fantasy Tip: With the A's playing an interleague series at a National League park this weekend, Davis ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) and Butler ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) had both taken turns riding the pine over the last few days. Davis is 7-for-24 (.292) with two doubles in his career versus Hudson and is worth considering in FantasyScore if you need an inexpensive option at first base.

Athletics | Billy Butler starting at 1B

Fri, 24 Jul 2015 15:16:44 -0700

Oakland Athletics 1B Billy Butler will start at first base against San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy Friday, July 24, and is batting fourth in the lineup. 1B Ike Davis is not in the starting lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Butler ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) is hitting only .193 this month but does have three home runs and nine RBI in that span. Owners on FantasyScore could consider using Butler in their lineups but may also be able to find better options.

Athletics | Ike Davis out Tuesday

Tue, 21 Jul 2015 15:09:13 -0700

Oakland Athletics 1B Ike Davis will receive an off day Tuesday, July 21, against the Toronto Blue Jays. C Stephen Vogt will start at first base, while C Josh Phegley comes in to start behind the plate and bat seventh in the order against LHP Mark Buehrle.

Fantasy Tip: Phegley ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) is hitting .317 off lefties this season, with six doubles, one triple and two home runs. FantasyScore owners can fit Phegley into their lineups relatively easily and safely.

Athletics | Jake Smolinski playing left field

Sun, 19 Jul 2015 11:35:15 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Jake Smolinski will start in left field and bat fifth against Minnesota Twins SP Tommy Milone Sunday, July 19. OF/1B Mark Canha, who started in left field Saturday, July 18, will bat second and play first base Sunday. 1B Ike Davis is receiving the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Smolinski ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is 2-for-5 since joining the A's but is only batting .156 in 64 at-bats in the majors this season. Canha ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) is batting .310 with seven RBIs in July but hasn't homered in over a month. Neither player should be considered for FantasyScore lineups.

Athletics | Ike Davis resting vs. lefty

Wed, 08 Jul 2015 11:17:57 -0700

Oakland Athletics 1B Ike Davis is not in the lineup against New York Yankees left-handed SP CC Sabathia Wednesday, July 8. C Stephen Vogt is at first base with C Josh Phegley starting behind the plate and hitting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Phegley ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) has been effective against lefties (.310/.365/.534 with three of his five home runs) this year, making him an acceptable value pick on FantasyScore tonight. Vogt ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) has just one of his 13 home runs against lefties, but he's also not a terrible option against Sabathia.
