Toronto Blue Jays 3B Brett Lawrie (ankle) could return from the disabled list Friday, July 12.
Fantasy Tip: We'd hesitate before putting him into your lineups. He has struggled all season, and it may take a few weeks before he can hone his swing. He's a good buy-low target, especially with his likely move to second base.

Toronto Blue Jays manager John Gibbons indicated 3B Brett Lawrie (ankle) could play second base once he comes off the 15-day disabled list. Gibbons did not rule out OF Jose Bautista playing third base and said 1B Edwin Encarnacion could start at third base occasionally but not often. 3B Mark DeRosa and SS Maicer Izturis could see a majority of the time at third base if Lawrie is moved.
Fantasy Tip: Lawrie has been working at second base during his rehab, so it appears the team is serious about the possibility of moving Lawrie to second base. Lawrie probably would get more fantasy value if he is able to pick up second base eligibility. Even though DeRosa and Izturis would see playing time, their fantasy values would be hurt since they would be in a timeshare.

Toronto Blue Jays 3B Brett Lawrie (ankle) could return to major league action this weekend against the Baltimore Orioles. Brendan Kennedy of The Toronto Star says that Lawrie's move to second base while on his rehab assignment has raised speculation that the organization will move him there once he's activated from the DL, perhaps allowing 1B/3B Edwin Encarnacion to move to third and OF Melky Cabrera to DH regularly. The experiment could suggest that GM Alex Anthopolous is positioning to make a trade for a third baseman.
Fantasy Tip: This is all what-if stuff for now. It's interesting, though, because Lawrie owners would certainly welcome the additional eligibility.

Updating a previous report, the Toronto Blue Jays are taking a long look at 3B Brett Lawrie (ankle) at second base during his minor-league rehab assignment. Still, it seems unlikely the team would move Lawrie from third to second base at the big league level, at least this season, unless the club acquires another player.
