Twins | Aaron Hicks ends homer drought

Wed, 27 May 2015 15:55:25 -0700

Minnesota Twins OF Aaron Hicks hit a two-run home run in a winning effort Wednesday, May 27, for his first home run in 171 at-bats since April of last season. He finished the game 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI and a walk to raise his average to .240.

Fantasy Tip: Hicks ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) hasn't done much offensively since returning to Minnesota, but perhaps his biggest contribution has been drastically improving the team's outfield defense in center field. If he can improve his offense, he may hold off Byron Buxton just a little longer.

Twins | Aaron Hicks starting vs. Tigers

Wed, 13 May 2015 14:34:17 -0700

Minnesota Twins OF Aaron Hicks is starting in center field and batting eighth against the Detroit Tigers Wednesday, May 13.

Fantasy Tip: This is Hicks' second consecutive start, and he went 1-for-4 Tuesday, May 12. He is nothing more than a low-priced flier for daily contests, and until he strings together a nice stretch at the plate, his value is limited to AL-only leagues. Even there, he is a desperation option.

Minnesota Twins OF Aaron Hicks was recalled from Class AAA Rochester (N.Y.) Tuesday, May 12, and he started against the Detroit Tigers. He finished 1-for-4 with a strikeout.

Fantasy Tip: If Hicks continues to start he could be a decent low-end FantasyScore option, especially if he replicates his solid numbers from the minors.

Twins | Aaron Hicks starting Tuesday

Tue, 12 May 2015 13:19:32 -0700

Minnesota Twins OF Aaron Hicks is in the starting lineup Tuesday, May 12, against the Detroit Tigers and is hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Hicks was just called up so he has no FantasyScore value as of yet, but he should be a low-cost alternative in your lineup. He may be worth checking out in daily leagues if you want to fill your outfield with lower-priced players. He may form a platoon with Jordan Schafer in the outfield, so Hicks may be of value to AL-only owners as well.

Twins | Aaron Hicks to get another chance

Mon, 11 May 2015 19:57:21 -0700

The Minnesota Twins are expected to recall OF Aaron Hicks from Class AAA Rochester (N.Y.) before the game Tuesday, May 12.

Fantasy Tip: Hicks was tearing it up for Rochester to the tune of a .336 batting average with a pair of homers and two stolen bases. FantasyScore owners could find him to be a solid low-end value if he gets off to a good start.

Twins | Aaron Hicks optioned to Class AAA

Sat, 28 Mar 2015 06:47:12 -0700

Minnesota Twins OF Aaron Hicks was optioned to Triple-A Rochester Saturday, March 28.

Fantasy Tip: Hicks hit .206 (7-for-40) this spring and has a .201 batting average through 467 at-bats in his career. The once promising outfielder has now lost the center field job three times. He is a stash candidate in deep AL-only leagues, but can be dropped in all mixed formats.

Twins | Minnesota CF competition open

Thu, 19 Mar 2015 13:53:45 -0700

Minnesota Twins OFs Aaron Hicks, Jordan Schafer, Eddie Rosario and Shane Robinson are essentially all battling for the starting center field job in spring training, according to manager Paul Molitor. Molitor said the competition remains wide open, but Hicks is believed to be the favorite for the job and has hit .300/.400/.500 with two triples and two RBI in eight games. Rosario has also turned heads, but he's not on the current active roster and hasn't played above Class AA. Molitor thinks Hicks needs to win the job to make the roster, too, because the team wants him to play every day to further his development.

Fantasy Tip: With Hicks being the favorite for the job, he has to carry the most fantasy value, albeit limited. Hicks could also end up in a platoon in center, which makes his path to consistent at-bats shaky. None of these options should be drafted in standard leagues, and even Hicks is only worth a low investment in AL-only formats.

Twins | Aaron Hicks in better shape

Wed, 25 Feb 2015 10:48:32 -0800

Minnesota Twins OF Aaron Hicks looks larger this spring in the shoulder area than he did last year.

Fantasy Tip: Hicks, just 25, has been a disappointment so far in Minnesota. He hit just .215 with one home run in 69 games in his second season in 2014. He'll be under the radar now, and the Twins don't have many sure things in their outfield, meaning Hicks could carve out consistent playing time if he can deliver on his skills. Consider him a worthwhile gamble on the cheap in AL-only formats.

Twins | Jordan Schafer, Aaron Hicks to battle?

Mon, 16 Feb 2015 13:51:37 -0800

Minnesota Twins OFs Jordan Schafer and Aaron Hicks will be in the running for the starting center field job in 2015, with Schafer potentially being the most major league-ready option for the club. Schafer has had the better career to date, and he played better in 2014, too. Schafer has underperformed in his career, and he's cited a lack of consistent playing time as a result. He hit .285/.345/.362 after joining the Twins last year in less than 150 plate appearances. Schafer provides quickness in the outfield and on the bases, and he's excelled at hitting righties. Hicks, on the other hand, has hit lefties much better in his young career, so the two could make an interesting combination in a platoon in center field.

Fantasy Tip: At first glance and based off their splits, Schafer and Hicks figure to enter the season in a platoon role in center if the Twins plan on keeping Danny Santana at shortstop. Because of that, neither is an attractive option in mixed leagues. Schafer may have the slight edge in AL-only formats, but you have to consider that Byron Buxton may eventually enter the picture at some point this year, which would further complicate matters.
