Padres | Jemile Weeks to start rehab soon

Sun, 10 Jul 2016 16:59:50 -0700

San Diego Padres 2B Jemile Weeks (hamstring) is making progress with his running program and is expected to begin a rehab assignment after the All-Star break.

Fantasy Tip: Weeks was batting just .140 before the injury, so he can be left on the waiver wire until he shows he can help out fantasy teams.

Padres | Jemile Weeks has hamstring strain

Thu, 12 May 2016 15:46:30 -0700

San Diego Padres 2B Jemile Weeks' (hamstring) MRI exam confirmed he has a strained right hamstring. He will be reevaluated in two to three weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Weeks wasn't worth a roster spot outside of cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues to begin with, so it isn't out of the question to cut ties and find a healthy replacement. He was hitting just .140 through 57 plate appearances, after all.

Padres | Jemile Weeks placed on DL

Sun, 08 May 2016 12:34:48 -0700

San Diego Padres 2B Jemile Weeks (hamstring) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday, May 08, due to a strained right hamstring. The Padres recalled INF Jose Pirela from Class AAA El Paso in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Adam Rosales figures to see regular at-bats in place of Weeks, who was pulled late in Saturday's loss to the New York Mets. Neither Rosales nor Weeks have any business being on a fantasy roster outside of possibly deeper NL-only leagues.

Padres | Jemile Weeks enters lineup

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 14:50:27 -0700

San Diego Padres 2B Jemile Weeks is starting at second base and is batting eighth against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jeff Locke Wednesday, April 20.

Fantasy Tip: The switch-hitting younger brother of Rickie Weeks could platoon at second with Alexi Amarista while Cory Spangenberg (quadriceps) is on the DL. Speed is Weeks' specialty, as he stole 22 in his rookie season with Oakland back in 2011. Add Weeks in cavernous mixed and NL leagues if you're searching for a short-term boost in stolen bases.

Padres | Cory Spangenberg placed on disabled list

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 14:14:04 -0700

Updating a previous report, San Diego Padres 2B Cory Spangenberg (quadriceps) was officially placed on the disabled list Wednesday, April 20. In a corresponding move, 2B Jemile Weeks had his contract purchased from Class AAA El Paso.

Fantasy Tip: Weeks posted a .306/.405/.500 slash line through 10 games in the minors and will likely see enough work to warrant an add in NL-only leagues. However, his upside is limited, as Weeks hasn't been a regular in the league since 2012 when he returned a .221/.305/.304 line. Adam Rosales and Alexi Amarista should also be in the mix at the keystone, too. Stay tuned for updates on Spangenberg's recovery and return timeline.

Padres | Cory Spangenberg likely to DL

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 12:07:43 -0700

San Diego Padres 2B Cory Spangenberg (quadriceps) is likely to land on the disabled list, and 2B Jemile Weeks could soon be added to the 40-man roster to take Spangenberg's place.

Fantasy Tip: Either Adam Rosales or Alexi Amarista are likely to take over at the keystone, with Weeks possibly seeing starts here and there. The other will take over at third base with Yangervis Solarte on the DL. All three of the options to replace Spangenberg at second are light-hitting options that shouldn't attract much interest outside of NL-only affairs.

Padres | Jemile Weeks hitting his way onto roster?

Sun, 20 Mar 2016 05:22:06 -0700

San Diego Padres 2B Jemile Weeks hit a two-run home run during the Cactus League game Saturday, March 19, to improve to 12-for-27 with five extra-base hits during spring training.

Fantasy Tip: Weeks most certainly is nothing more than a flier in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues, but a potential utility role could be ahead given his excellent spring. Additionally, it isn't like the Padres have a middle infield bound for Cooperstown blocking him.

Red Sox | Josh Rutledge to have significant role?

Mon, 27 Jul 2015 16:24:20 -0700

Boston Red Sox 2B Josh Rutledge will likely join the team's active roster after being acquired from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Monday, July 27, according to general manager Ben Cherington. 2B Jemile Weeks may not be in the majors for long.

Fantasy Tip: It appears that Rutledge will be the Red Sox's starting second baseman with Dustin Pedroia (hamstring) on the DL, at least for the time being. Rutledge didn't appear for the Angels this year, and he was hitting .286 (92-for-322) with six home runs and 34 RBI in the minors. He doesn't have much power to speak of, but consistent playing time will make him attractive to those in AL leagues if you need middle infield depth at this time.

Red Sox | Jemile Weeks starting at 2B

Mon, 27 Jul 2015 14:24:18 -0700

Boston Red Sox 2B Jemile Weeks will start at second base against Chicago White Sox SP John Danks Monday, July 27, and is batting ninth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Weeks ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) went 1-for-2 in his last games but likely will move back to the bench when Brock Holt returns. Owners should be able to find better options to use.

Red Sox | Brock Holt exits game

Sun, 26 Jul 2015 19:05:24 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Brock Holt (knee) left with tightness in his left knee against the Detroit Tigers Sunday, July 26, and was replaced by 2B Jemile Weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Stay tuned for more information on Holt's ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) status going forward. Weeks will be seeing his first action of the season, and even he makes a few more appearances, he doesn't have much fantasy value.
