Astros | Jason Castro loses in arbitration

Tue, 09 Feb 2016 10:32:21 -0800

Houston Astros C Jason Castro lost his arbitration case, and he'll make $5 million in 2016 instead of the $5.25 million he was seeking.

Fantasy Tip: Castro is more of an option for fantasy owners in two-catcher or AL-only leagues. He hasn't hit better than .222 in the last two years, although he has some pop to offer, especially in a nice hitting environment at Minute Maid Park.

Astros | Jason Castro out against M's

Tue, 29 Sep 2015 16:04:06 -0700

Houston Astros C Jason Castro is out of the lineup against Seattle Mariners left-handed SP Vidal Nuno Tuesday, Sept. 29. C Hank Conger is doing the catching and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: The switch-hitting Conger ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) hasn't been successful against southpaws this year (.168/.264/.337) in 95 at-bats. That alone is reason to avoid him on FantasyScore this evening.

Astros | Jason Castro sitting out

Wed, 23 Sep 2015 09:17:52 -0700

Houston Astros C Jason Castro is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, Sept. 23. C Max Stassi is behind the plate and is hitting ninth against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Nick Tropeano.

Fantasy Tip: Stassi ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) has only 13 at-bats for the Astros this year but does have five hits and a home run in that short span. Regardless, he's at the bottom of the order and isn't attractive at all on FantasyScore on a day with a full slate of games.

Astros | Jason Castro reaches twice in return

Thu, 17 Sep 2015 21:00:40 -0700

Houston Astros C Jason Castro (quadriceps) went 1-for-2 with a walk in his return from the disabled list Thursday, Sept. 17, against the Texas Rangers.

Fantasy Tip: Castro ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) is hitting just .221 on the year, so there is no need to rush him back into lineups at FantasyScore.

Astros | Jason Castro activated from DL

Thu, 17 Sep 2015 12:47:23 -0700

Houston Astros C Jason Castro (quadriceps) was reinstated from the 15-day disabled list Thursday, Sept. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners should count on Castro ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) returning to the lineup Thursday, and he lands in a decent matchup against Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis ($5,700, 11.4% of cap). Still, you'll want to be a touch patient with Castro returning from injury, especially considering he is having his second consecutive poor season and owns a .662 OPS since the beginning of 2014.

Astros | Jason Castro close to returning

Wed, 16 Sep 2015 14:50:46 -0700

Houston Astros C Jason Castro (quadriceps) caught a bullpen session Wednesday, Sept. 16, and he is close to returning to the starting lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Castro ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) last played Friday, Aug. 28, and he has struggled mightily for the majority of the season. He is nothing more than a low-end option in AL-only, cavernous mixed and two-catcher formats. His return will cut into Hank Conger's ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) playing time and lessen Conger's value, which is the biggest fantasy impact.

Astros | Jason Castro might return shortly

Tue, 15 Sep 2015 18:18:18 -0700

Houston Astros C Jason Castro (quadriceps) might be activated from the 15-day disabled list before the end of the road series against the Texas Rangers, even if he cannot run at 100 percent.

Fantasy Tip: Castro ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) isn't a recommended FantasyScore play, especially if he isn't 100 percent. He is likely to see spot duty as a pinch hitter, limiting his at-bats down the stretch.

Astros | Jason Castro feeling good

Fri, 11 Sep 2015 16:25:57 -0700

Houston Astros C Jason Castro (quadriceps) caught a bullpen session Friday, Sept. 11, and is feeling good.

Fantasy Tip: There's no timetable for when Castro ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) will return to action, and he's unlikely to be of much help from here on out. Hank Conger ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) has been doing most of the catching and can be a nice sleeper pick on FantasyScore against certain right-handers.

Astros | Jason Castro starting exercises

Tue, 01 Sep 2015 13:49:10 -0700

Houston Astros C Jason Castro (quadriceps) started range-of-motion exercises Tuesday, Sept. 1.

Fantasy Tip: With Castro on the DL, Hank Conger ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) is seeing the majority of starts behind the dish. Only hang onto Castro in two-catcher or AL-only leagues. Conger could be a slight offensive upgrade over Castro without as much power, but he's also a very low-end catching option in daily leagues.

Astros | Jason Castro placed on DL

Sat, 29 Aug 2015 14:29:13 -0700

Houston Astros C Jason Castro (quadriceps) was placed on the 15-day disabled list because of a quadriceps injury. The team also recalled C Max Stassi from Class AAA Fresno.

Fantasy Tip: Hank Conger ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) probably will receive most of the starts with Castro out of the lineup. Conger is hitting only .215 this season and is not a great option on FantasyScore.
