"I've been doing quite a bit of work on the rehab, physical therapy side, and the whole healing process and everything has actually gone really well. I'm pretty much ahead of schedule as far as the way it's been healing and the progress I've made in my rehab and everything," Castro said. He projects to be the team's starting catcher this year.

Astros | Looking through catcher choices

Wed, 14 Dec 2011 23:33:09 -0800

Although new Houston Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow would like to see where C Jason Castro and C Humberto Quintero are with their progress come spring training, Luhnow admitted he will look through catchers recently non-tendered by other clubs. "We're doing our due diligence on all the non-tenders to try and figure out if there's a fit," Luhnow said. "I'm not sure we're going to be in a position where we can give any guarantees. But the later you go prior to spring training, if guys want an opportunity to come compete for a role – that guaranteed – that's something we're going to be looking at."
