The Miami Marlins activated 1B Joe Mahoney (oblique) from the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, April 17, and optioned C Kyle Skipworth to the minors in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Mike Redmond has indicated that Mahoney will get every chance to prove he belongs as the starting first baseman. Target him in NL leagues if you're hurting for first base options. He can be ignored in mixed formats.

The Miami Marlins are searching for a backup catcher, following an injury to C Jeff Mathis (collarbone) that is expected to sideline him for six weeks. They are open to making a trade or waiting to see who's available after rosters are reduced. C Kyle Skipworth would be the most likely choice to serve as the backup to C Rob Brantly if the Marlins decide to use an internal candidate.
