Blue Jays | Justin Smoak returning to the Blue Jays

Wed, 02 Dec 2015 16:16:00 -0800

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Justin Smoak avoided arbitration with the team and signed a one-year, $3.9 million contract Wednesday, Dec. 2.

Fantasy Tip: Smoak only received 328 plate appearances last season, and unless there are significant shakeups in Toronto during the offseason, his fantasy relevance will be limited to cavernous mixed and AL-only formats. However, his 18 home runs and 59 RBI are impressive marks given his limited playing time, especially in deep formats.

Blue Jays | Chris Colabello starting ALDS Game 3

Sun, 11 Oct 2015 14:21:46 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Chris Colabello is starting Game 3 of the American League Division Series Sunday, Oct. 11. 1B Justin Smoak is out of the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Colabello ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) is hitting a lot like he did when he started 2014 with the Minnesota Twins. He eventually faded there. So far, he's looking like a solid option for FantasyScore lineups with a .304 average in the last week.

Blue Jays | Chris Colabello starting Friday

Fri, 09 Oct 2015 09:09:47 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Chris Colabello is starting at first base and is hitting sixth against Texas Rangers SP Cole Hamels in Game 2 of the division series Friday, Oct. 9. 1B Justin Smoak will start on the bench against the lefty.

Fantasy Tip: Colabello ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) is a sneaky under-the-radar FantasyScore pick with all four divisional games going Friday. He hit .308/.364/.571 with a .935 OPS and seven of his 15 home runs off southpaws this season.

Blue Jays | Justin Smoak returns to action Saturday

Sat, 03 Oct 2015 11:52:03 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Justin Smoak will bat fifth against Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer Saturday, Oct. 3. 1B/DH Chris Colabello is not in the starting lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Smoak ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) is batting .353 with two homers and six RBIs over the past week. He is 6-for-17 with a home run and three RBIs versus Archer in his career, so he is worthy of consideration for FantasyScore lineups today.

Blue Jays | Matt Hague draws start

Thu, 01 Oct 2015 08:17:14 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Matt Hague is in the lineup hitting fifth Thursday, Oct. 1, with 1B Justin Smoak sitting out.

Fantasy Tip: Hague ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is a bit of an unknown with just nine at-bats this year and 81 career at-bats for the 30-year-old. We need more of a sample size before starting him on FantasyScore against Tyler Wilson.

Blue Jays | Chris Colabello in against Baltimore

Mon, 28 Sep 2015 13:40:13 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Chris Colabello is starting at first base and batting fifth against Baltimore Orioles SP Chris Tillman Monday, Sept. 28. 1B Justin Smoak is not in the starting lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Colabello ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) usually plays against left-handed pitchers with Smoak ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) in against righties. It isn't the case Monday, and Colabello is a high-end value for FantasyScore players. He owns a .322/.370/.514 slash line this season and is hitting after the four best hitters in the lineup. Plus, Tillman ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) has served up a .407/.480/.826 slash line to Toronto bats this season through 18 innings.

Blue Jays | Justin Smoak collects three hits

Mon, 28 Sep 2015 04:48:26 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Justin Smoak had three hits Sunday, Sept. 27, in a 5-4 win over the Tampa Bay Rays.

Fantasy Tip: Smoak ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) is up to .232 for a batting average, but he has already surpassed expectations after largely disappointing in Seattle with the Mariners. Playing in that lineup has been a boon for Smoak, who makes for a solid start if you're looking to save cap space.

Blue Jays | Chris Colabello in lineup Saturday

Sat, 19 Sep 2015 10:31:25 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Chris Colabello will bat fifth against Boston Red Sox SP Wade Miley Saturday, Sept. 19. 1B Justin Smoak is receiving the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Colabello ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) has a favorable matchup in FantasyScore this afternoon. He is batting .391 at the plate this month with a home run and four RBIs and is 2-for-6 versus Miley in his career with a solo home run.

Blue Jays | Edwin Encarnacion has sore finger

Tue, 15 Sep 2015 13:25:34 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Edwin Encarnacion (finger) is out of the lineup with a sore left middle finger after aggravating the injury during a doubleheader Saturday, Sept. 12. It's the same injury that made him miss two games at the end of July and four more in early August, but the Blue Jays don't think it's serious. Encarnacion should be able to return in a couple of days. He finished August hitting .407 with 11 home runs, 35 RBI and a 1.379 OPS. 1Bs Justin Smoak and Chris Colabello will platoon at first base in a National League park against the Atlanta Braves this week with no designated hitter.

Fantasy Tip: Don't plan on using Encarnacion ($6,500, 13.0% of cap) in your FantasyScore lineups until at least later this week. Smoak ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) is starting against Braves righty Julio Teheran tonight and isn't a bad value pick against a pitcher allowing 1.3 home runs per nine innings in 2015.

Blue Jays | Justin Smoak starting vs. Yankees

Thu, 10 Sep 2015 14:09:20 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Justin Smoak is starting at first base and batting sixth against New York Yankees SP Luis Severino Thursday, Sept. 10. 1B Chris Colabello is not in the starting lineup Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Smoak ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) and Colabello ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) have been splitting time at first base, and both offer nice upside at FantasyScore in the right matchups. It isn't a great spot Thursday, though, as Severino ($7,600, 15.2% of cap) boasts a 2.04 ERA over his six starts this season. Smoak is nothing more than a mid-priced flier Thursday.
