Blue Jays | Edwin Encarnacion on bench

Tue, 02 Jun 2015 08:19:20 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Edwin Encarnacion is out of the lineup for Game 1 of a doubleheader Tuesday, June 2, with 1B Justin Smoak replacing him.

Fantasy Tip: E5 was slated to sit in the NL park yesterday as well before rain postponed the game. Smoak ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) has minimal FantasyScore appeal.

Blue Jays | Edwin Encarnacion receives night off

Mon, 01 Jun 2015 12:53:56 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Edwin Encarnacion is not in the starting lineup against the Washington Nationals Monday, June 1. 1B Justin Smoak is starting at first base and batting fourth Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Encarnacion ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) in all fantasy formats Monday. Smoak ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) has been used primarily in a pinch-hit role this season, but it is worth noting he has an active 7-for-13 run with two runs, a home run and five RBI with a 1.341 OPS. Still, it is a small sample size and Smoak is nothing more than a low-priced flier in FantasyScore contests.

Blue Jays | Jose Bautista not ready to play

Mon, 25 May 2015 13:42:29 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista (shoulder) is not in the starting lineup Monday, May 25. 1B Edwin Encarnacion will serve as the designated hitter, while 1B Justin Smoak will start at first base.

Fantasy Tip: It is not known when Bautista ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) will be able to play again so owners should monitor the situation. Encarnacion ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) should be a nightly starting option on FantasyScore. Smoak ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) is only hitting .217 this month and has recorded two RBI during that span. Owners on FantasyScore should avoid Smoak for the time being.

Blue Jays | Jose Bautista gets day off

Sun, 24 May 2015 07:34:22 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista will have the day off Sunday, May 24, against the Seattle Mariners. 1B Edwin Encarnacion will serve as the designated hitter, with 1B Justin Smoak getting the start in the field.

Fantasy Tip: Smoak ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) is 2-for-3 in his last three appearances as a pinch-hitter. Smoak went 1-for-4 in his most recent start at first base, but his upside is limited with only one extra-base hit on the season.

Blue Jays | Edwin Encarnacion resting Saturday

Sat, 16 May 2015 14:28:19 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Edwin Encarnacion will rest Saturday, May 16, against the Houston Astros. 1B Justin Smoak will start at first and hit fifth in the order.

Fantasy Tip: Smoak ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) is 0-for-11 in his last seven games. Smoak does have 57 career home runs against right-handed pitching, but FantasyScore owners should be looking for a safer option.

Blue Jays | Justin Smoak hitting fifth vs. O's

Mon, 11 May 2015 13:06:40 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Justin Smoak is batting fifth and playing first base against the Baltimore Orioles Monday, May 11.

Fantasy Tip: Smoak ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) has been relegated to a bench role with Jose Bautista making the majority of starts as the designated hitter. With Bautista out Monday, Smoak draws into the lineup. Smoak is in a 2-for-16 funk, and FantasyScore players should likely aim higher Monday.

Blue Jays | Justin Smoak is odd-man out

Mon, 04 May 2015 21:17:14 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Justin Smoak has had limited at-bats in recent games, not due to poor performance but because OF Jose Bautista (shoulder) is limited to designated hitter duties and 1B Edwin Encarnacion is the primary first baseman.

Fantasy Tip: Smoak ($2,200; 4.4% of cap) should be avoided in FantasyScore until Bautista is finally able to throw and move back out into the field opening up ABs for the former Mariner.

Blue Jays | Justin Smoak the odd-man out

Tue, 28 Apr 2015 12:02:33 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Justin Smoak remains out of the starting lineup Tuesday, April 28.

Fantasy Tip: Smoak ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) is normally in the lineup against a right-hander, but the ailing shoulder of Jose Bautista has kept him out of the outfield and left Smoak riding the bench. It may be at least another couple of days before Smoak is back in the starting lineup and playing first base.

Blue Jays | Justin Smoak not playing Monday

Mon, 27 Apr 2015 15:04:56 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Justin Smoak is not in the starting lineup Monday, April 27. OF Jose Bautista is starting at first base and hitting cleanup.

Fantasy Tip: Smoak ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) may see more bench time this week as Bautista works his way back into the lineup following a shoulder injury. Despite bad weather, Joey Bats ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) is a fine FantasyScore investment this evening. His shoulder injury affects his throwing, mainly.

Blue Jays | Justin Smoak facing righty Friday

Fri, 10 Apr 2015 09:26:21 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Justin Smoak is starting at first base and batting seventh in the starting lineup against Baltimore Orioles SP Bud Norris Friday, April 10.

Fantasy Tip: Smoak ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) has enticing power, especially in this powerhouse of a lineup. However, his .186 batting average in 140 at-bats against right-handers last year doesn't really inspire a ton of confidence for daily owners.
