Blue Jays | Justin Smoak out of lineup Sunday

Sun, 01 May 2016 07:36:59 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Justin Smoak is out of the lineup against Tampa Bay Rays SP Jake Odorizzi Sunday, May 1. DH/1B Edwin Encarnacion will play first base and bat fifth, with OF Jose Bautista batting third and serving as the designated hitter. OF Ezequiel Carrera will start in right field and bat seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Smoak is just 3-for-19 at the plate since assuming Toronto's starting job at first base on a full-time basis and should continue to be viewed as a low-end option at the position in all fantasy formats going forward. Carrera is hitting .344 with three extra-base hits through his first 32 at-bats and is worthy of consideration as a value play in daily games this afternoon.

Blue Jays | Justin Smoak out vs. lefty

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 12:40:31 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Justin Smoak is not in the starting lineup against Chicago White Sox left-handed SP Jose Quintana Wednesday, April 27. 3B Matt Dominguez is starting at first base and is hitting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Dominguez is a career .233 hitter, but he did slug 21 home runs for the Houston Astros back in 2013. He struck out in two of his three plate appearances last night in his season debut, and he's a desperation flier in daily contests tonight.

Blue Jays | Justin Smoak out Tuesday

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 12:39:23 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Justin Smoak is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, April 26, against the Chicago White Sox. 1B Edwin Encarnacion is batting fourth against White Sox SP Chris Sale.

Fantasy Tip: Although Smoak is batting .313 in the last week, he has a .143 average against Sale and the same average in games played at Rogers Centre. Smoak is doing fairly well as of late and deserves fantasy consideration. Encarnacion should be handled with kid gloves for the moment (.226 average, five RBIs in the last week).

Blue Jays | Justin Smoak out of the lineup

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 13:13:04 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Justin Smoak is not in the starting lineup against Chicago White Sox SP Miguel Gonzalez Monday, April 25. 2B Darwin Barney will start at third base and is batting eighth in the lineup. 1B Edwin Encarnacion will be the first baseman, while 3B Josh Donaldson will serve as the designated hitter.

Fantasy Tip: Barney has gone 4-for-7 with one home run and three RBI over the last two games and could be used in some daily fantasy leagues because of his recently play.

Blue Jays | Justin Smoak set for full-time at-bats

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 13:26:39 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Justin Smoak will be the everyday first baseman with 1B Chris Colabello suspended for 80 games, manager John Gibbons said Friday, April 22.

Fantasy Tip: Smoak receives a significant fantasy boost with the opportunity, but it doesn't mean the veteran will cash in on it enough to be anything more than an option in deep mixed and AL-only leagues. Dating back to 2011, Smoak owns an underwhelming .225/.310/.395 slash line. So, while he's shown upside in flashes, there is a large enough sample to prove you should keep expectations in check.

Blue Jays | Justin Smoak draws another start

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 12:34:51 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Justin Smoak is starting at first base and is hitting seventh against Baltimore Orioles SP Chris Tillman Thursday, April 21. 1B Chris Colabello will start on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: If you're looking to save a little money on a first baseman in DFS, Smoak is worth a look. While Tillman has only allowed one home run this year, he has been known to have gopheritis in the past, and hitting the ball deep is Smoak's specialty. Tillman did allow six earned runs in 5 1/3 innings in his last start, too.

Blue Jays | Justin Smoak draws a start

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 12:45:11 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Justin Smoak is starting at first base and is hitting fifth against Baltimore Orioles SP Mike Wright Tuesday, April 19.

Fantasy Tip: Smoak hit only .222 (57-for-257) against right-handers in 2015, but 14 of his 18 home runs came against them. He doesn't make much contact, but when he does, it can go a long way. In this potent lineup against Wright, consider Smoak a daily sleeper selection.

Blue Jays | Josh Donaldson back in the lineup

Fri, 08 Apr 2016 12:37:54 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 3B Josh Donaldson (calf) is batting second as the designated hitter against Boston Red Sox SP Joe Kelly Friday, April 8. As a result, 1Bs Chris Colabello and Justin Smoak are not in the starting lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Return Donaldson to your fantasy lineups with confidence. If he occupies the designated hitter slot over the weekend, it will likely keep Smoak and Colabello reserved to bench roles.

Blue Jays | Three Blue Jays draw starts

Wed, 06 Apr 2016 07:28:33 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Chris Colabello is hitting sixth, OF Ezequiel Carrera is hitting eighth and 2B Darwin Barney is hitting ninth Wednesday, April 6. OF Michael Saunders, 2B Ryan Goins and 1B Justin Smoak are not in the lineup against a lefty.

Fantasy Tip: Colabello is the only one worth a DFS buy at the right price today against Tampa Bay Rays lefty Matt Moore.

Blue Jays | Justin Smoak in line for big year?

Thu, 24 Mar 2016 10:46:01 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Justin Smoak hit his fourth spring home run Thursday, March 24, and the Blue Jays think he's primed to have a big season.

Fantasy Tip: Smoak is impressive in the power department, but he'll need full-time at-bats in order to approach his 30-homer potential. That probably won't happen because of a platoon role in Toronto. But he's still a fine power source late in deep mixed and AL-only setups.
