Blue Jays | Justin Smoak facing righty Friday

Fri, 10 Apr 2015 09:26:21 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Justin Smoak is starting at first base and batting seventh in the starting lineup against Baltimore Orioles SP Bud Norris Friday, April 10.

Fantasy Tip: Smoak ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) has enticing power, especially in this powerhouse of a lineup. However, his .186 batting average in 140 at-bats against right-handers last year doesn't really inspire a ton of confidence for daily owners.

Blue Jays | Justin Smoak in lineup

Wed, 08 Apr 2015 13:42:02 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Justin Smoak is in the starting lineup against New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda Wednesday, April 8. Smoak is starting at first base and hitting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Smoak ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) is a cheap source of power for daily lineups, especially at hitter-friendly Yankee Stadium. However, the matchup against Pineda, who had a nice spring, isn't the most endearing for FantasyScore players.

Blue Jays | Justin Smoak makes team

Tue, 31 Mar 2015 12:51:26 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Justin Smoak has made the 25-man roster.

Fantasy Tip: Smoak ($3,200 FantasyScore, 6.4% of cap) could benefit from a change of scenery, as he never quite lived up to his billing with the Seattle Mariners. For now, see how much Smoak hits before spending money.

Blue Jays | Dayan Viciedo an option at 1B?

Mon, 02 Mar 2015 09:16:59 -0800

Toronto Blue Jays OF Dayan Viciedo gives the team another option in left field with OF Michael Saunders (knee) out, but general manager Alex Anthopoulos said the first base/designated hitter spot is "the most wide open spot in terms of competition." The team has talked about giving 1B Edwin Encarnacion time at DH this year to save his body, and 1Bs Justin Smoak, Daric Barton and Matt Hague are other options for first base.

Fantasy Tip: Viciedo could have fleeting late-round value in deeper mixed leagues depending on his playing time in the first month of the season with Saunders sidelined. Viciedo hit 20-plus homers in two of the last three years, so we know he has the power. He won't do you any favors in the BA department, though, so he'll mainly be an NL-only commodity this year.
