Blue Jays | Justin Smoak draws into lineup

Wed, 01 Jul 2015 09:25:03 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Justin Smoak is starting at first base and hitting sixth against Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello Wednesday, July 1. 1B Edwin Encarnacion is serving as the designated hitter.

Fantasy Tip: Smoak ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) has become somewhat of a forgotten man for the Blue Jays, and he had just 10 hits in 47 at-bats (.213) in the month of June with two home runs and nine RBI. However, he does have four of his five homers on the year against right-handers and has gone deep once in 11 career at-bats off Porcello. Smoak is a low-end sleeper pick if you're looking to stand out from your competitors.

Blue Jays | Edwin Encarnacion not in lineup Thursday

Thu, 18 Jun 2015 11:49:27 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Edwin Encarnacion is out of the starting lineup Thursday, June 18. 1B Justin Smoak is batting fourth and OF Ezequiel Carrera is in right field.

Fantasy Tip: Encarnacion ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) appears to be getting a regular night off, as none of his splits suggest anything worth worrying about. Smoak ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) has two home runs and a .429 average in the past week, and he is a worthy start candidate. Carrera ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) has a .250 mark in the last week and is a good start candidate at that low price.

Fantasy Tip: Smoak ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) likely is sitting because the team is facing a left-handed pitcher. Valencia ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) is batting .321 of the season and could be a cheaper option for owners on FantasyScore to consider.

Tue, 09 Jun 2015 14:26:02 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Edwin Encarnacion (shoulder) is returning to the starting lineup against Miami Marlins SP Dan Haren Tuesday, June 9. He's serving as the designated hitter, which allows 1B Justin Smoak into the starting lineup.

Fantasy Tip: It's good news that Encarnacion ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) is back in the starting lineup, but until he shows us some life with the bat, it's probably safest to hold him out of your lineups. He's hitting only .100 (3-for-30) with an RBI since May 25.

Blue Jays | Edwin Encarnacion returns to lineup

Fri, 05 Jun 2015 13:23:12 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Edwin Encarnacion (hamstring) is back in the starting lineup against Houston Astros SP Roberto Hernandez Friday, June 5. He is serving as the designated hitter and batting cleanup. 1B Justin Smoak is starting at first base and hitting seventh in the batting order.

Fantasy Tip: While Encarnacion ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) is having a down year and is batting only .206 (32-for-155) against right-handed pitchers this year, he does have 11 of his 12 home runs against righties. And Hernandez shouldn't scare you away if you want to click Encarnacion on FantasyScore when many others may be staying away.
